ABOUT ME

Hello! I've just updated my profile to reflect the fact that I will sometimes be traveling as a 'couple'. So this account is both for me (Matt) and my girlfriend Chelsea.

I'm currently a PhD student at the University of St Andrews, researching minor cinemas/modern political cinemas. I had previously had a big list of things up here... but now that there are two potential travelers here I've removed them. I usually try not to speak for other people, but I think it is safe to say that both Chelsea and I are very laid back people. We just moved to Scotland from the Pacific Northwest, and this is my first time living anywhere other than the Pacific Northwest, so I'd like to travel while I'm here!

Chelsea and I would love to stay with other laid back folks, and we like to cook, but don't mind going out either. Hope to hear from you!

More about Matt:
-Likes literature/poetry, particularly sci-fi and the beats
-Likes movies, particularly slow ones and films that make you think (but actually pretty much everything - I liked Iron Man as much as anyone else)
-Likes weird philosophy, especially where it pertains to lived experiences - and by weird philosophy I mean Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, so not that weird unless your of the analytic persuasion
-Likes to experience the local life - what do you eat, where do you hang out, what do you do where you live?
-Likes to be an independent surfer and likes independent surfers - you don't need to show me around, but you can if you want! Likewise, I'd love to show you around, but I'd also like you more if you are fine with being on your own.
-Likes surfers/hosts who will watch a movie together
-Likes thinking about stuff, even if not film/philosophy/writing related - though, might have less to say if it is not film/philosophy/writing related

Favorite book: probably A Thousand Plateaus by Gilles Deleuze.

Favorite movie: I <3 Huckabees - I know it is just a comedy, but it has inspired me to one day become an 'Existential Detective'.

Favorite music: Different types of folk. Pop-folk, anti-folk, post-folk (don't know if that last one really exists). Music from Seattle.

Well, I've spent most of my working life teaching writing and/or film. So, if you've got a question down one of those lines... But really, if you are working on an academic essay, I've spent a lot of time teaching academic writing and teaching university study skills, so we could definitely take a look at it. We can even discuss it in the pre-draft stage.

We can talk about your poetry/literature too, but I'm just another guy in that area (albeit a somewhat more interested one).
