ABOUT ME

I grew up in a small town in the Netherlands, moving to Utrecht afterwards to continue my studies, then to Nijmegen. Especually Nijmegen means a lot to me, symbolizing the quiet and the turbulent. I like the quiet... I am contemplative: interested in Western philosophy, especiallt philosophy of Nature (Schelling, Naess Sloterdijk). I enjoy being in nature. On the other hand I also love life in its protean nature... Music, the city life, meeting people, having new experiences. My philosophy is to open myself to everything, to try and accept what comes to you on its own terms... Try to accept the extraordinary instead of rejecting it.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is infinitely more complex than whatever we think is. The flawless victory of being over knowing.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My wish is to meet interesting people, who I would not have met if I had traveled in a regular way. Seeing how people live in a city tells you a lot more about how the city truly is, than simply being in another hostel. Other way round, I'd love to show people how it is to live wherever I am living at that moment.

Intereses

Philosophy, especially Schelling, Heidegger and Latour. Philosophy has the power to remind us time after time about the mysteriousness of being. Heideggers Sein und Zeit has in particular changed the way the world has been revealed to me. I also enjoy cinema, preferably original movies, such as those of Tarkovsky and Kieslowski. My Western favorites would be Kubrick and Anderson. Music is of great importance in my life as well. I am a (very unskilled) guitar player, always trying to write new tunes and songs. I play bass in a band

I am flexible and adapt myself easily to whatever environment I find myself in... I enjoy listening to stories of people and give my reflections on what I hear... I can speak English, German, Dutch and am always willing to teach this to others... I would like to learn of those who dare go beyond the ordinary chasing after their dreams...
