About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Settle down on one ambition long enough to actually accomplish it.

ABOUT ME

I'm open and friendly with people, because I like them and they mostly like me. I'm kind of nerdy, because I'm really curious about all kinds of things, and so I want to know about them... in occasionally nerdy detail. I read a lot. I exercise a lot. I get along with animals. I like beer, especially the thick black motor-oil-looking kind. I know all the lyrics to both "Mama Said Knock You Out" and "Rocky Raccoon."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I lend out my couch to strangers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My brother and I recently showed up at the Auckland, NZ airport without having done much advance planning. We met a friendly CS'er there; he brought us with him to meet his host. Pretty soon we had a place to stay that night, as well as two friends who could show us the town. That sold me on CS.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Right now, Afro-pop (Fela Kuti, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra) and ska (Desmond Dekker, The Ethiopians, Toots and the Maytals). Before that it was always jazz and various DJs.

Movies: Love and Death, Last Night, The Big Lebowski, Seven Samurai, Ikiru, Spirited Away, Blade Runner, The Jerk

Books: modern fiction, contemporary fiction, and lots of science and history non-fiction. Joyce, Woolf, Hemingway. And Bill Bryson. That guy's hilarious.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make a website, juggle, throw a frisbee forehand, and speak a little Japanese. As for what I'd like to learn -- I'd love a chance to practice my own Japanese.
