About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be a globletrotter and meet new people :)

ABOUT ME

Heya folks,
I'm a Canadian expat that came over to the UK to study. I just moved to London and I'll be hopefully hosting soon once I've settled down!

I've lived across the entire stretch of the kingdom from Edinburgh to Portmouth to Birmingham to Bath. My hosting experience is dotted around, mostly in Bath and Edinburgh, which were a bit more touristy. I work a full-time job now which means I'm quite busy so I may not be so free to host like when I was a cavalier student. But I'll do what I can to help and host if I can. I appreciate it if you don't message me ubiquitously and took the time to read my profile. I know it's hard to do sometimes when you're strapped for time in the midst of travel but I feel it contributes to a better CS experience.

Here are some ways you can find me.

I blog about my travel experiences, on and off, when I have the time so feel free to take a look! My roommate met a blogger 5 years ago that blogs about traveling on a shoestring as well and his blog just got picked up by EasyJet and now he travels and writes for them! AMAZING!

PHILOSOPHY

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host when I can, surf when I travel and entertain CSers if they want to meet up for coffee or a beer. We have a great crew of CS/uni/ERASMUS students that get together for pot-lucks and parties and it's amazing. I've met some pretty awesome people through it.

Interests

Traveling! I grew up in Canada and I haven't been to a lot of places in the world while I was living there since flights are so expensive! Even flying across my own country was sooooo much money. But now that I'm studying here in Birmingham, UK, I take advantage of all the cheap flights available. RyanAir/EasyJet...oh man. I love and hate you. hahaha. Here are my sentiments summed up in song: Fascinating Aida - Cheap Flights

I love trying new foods! I like to cook but usually I don't have that much time so I cook in bulk and eat that for the week. But I love going to new places and trying new food. Among my favorites are Ethiopian food, Korean, Japanese and Italian... mmm Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 500 Days of Summer, Fight Club, El laberinto del fauno, Das Leben der Anderen, Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain, Mar Adentro, Cidade de Deus, Hotel Rwanda, The Last King of Scotland, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Pulp Fiction

Music:
Elton John, The Beatles, Emeli Sande, Ayo, The Carpenters, Lana Del Rey, The Shirelles, toooooo much to name! I'll pretty much listen to anything. There is a really good folk song that I like, entitled Poor Wayfaring Stranger, that I think is best sung by Dusty Springfield...

I'm just a poor wayfaring stranger
I'm traveling through this world of woe
Yet there's no sickness, toil nor danger
In that bright land to which I go

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- jumped off a waterfall in Thailand
- climbed the Great Wall of China, twice!
- partied in Venice for Carnival with Claudio and his friends and brothers
- backpacked through Morocco and having meals with locals
- 80 minute jogging tour with my host, Jon, in Krakow
- stayed at an environmental protest site in Edinburgh
- lost my younger brothers and left them with no money or passport in Tokyo...
- slept on a park bench in Amsterdam (not because I was under the influence! haha)
- had a conversation with a Korean, Spaniard and Moroccan and none of them spoke English
