About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore our new city here in Portland!

ABOUT ME

We are both born and bred San Diego natives. A place many call "paradise". Despite this gracious appellation, we have a hankering for travel! I am teaching part time and looking to go back to school at the end of summer in order to pursue a full time job. Kay is going back to school as well to pursue a career in nursing (her degree is in political science!) Soo, before we go back to school and hunker down at what some people sadistically call "the real world". I like to think that everything is "the real world". Like meeting people outside of your direct social and national sphere. Gaining perspectives. That seems a lot like "the real world" to me too. I hope to meet all you potential CSers and hosts in the real world.

PHILOSOPHY

I can't say I have a particular motto but I'd say Kay agrees when I say that we both like to live lovingly. With that I'll just share two quotes I particularly like and if you wish, you can attempt to pigeon hole me into a particular mode of thought...

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"

"poetry is sane because it floats easily in an infinite sea; reason seeks to cross it, and so make it finite"

Extra points if you know who said them.

HER "I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree." -Joyce Kilmer

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We haven't had an opportunity to host yet due to tight living quarters with mums and pops. But we have a humble abode now fit with couch and air mattress. We hope to surf again in the near future but the current mission is creating a base camp in Portland. We live off a busy street so while we're welcome to host you, be sure to bring your earplugs for living room nights :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We had a wonderful experience in London with our new friend Jamie and an equally great time in Paris with Lohr and Cyril :)

Interests

We both love to be outside. We like camping, hiking, road-tripping, exploring--pretty much any type of adventuring. In our free time, we both love to read, take photos, explore new types of music, or sip on some coffee. Occasionally, we'll play basketball together or hit some tennis balls. We are both pretty much game for any new experience. We'll try any new food, explore any new place, or try just about anything (even if only once!). Life's too short. We want to see the world and we have big plans to do so. Despite the oft used, third person "we" in this bio, we do have individual interests, but for the sake of this shared bio, we will remain an amorphous super person with homogenous interests! :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We have both been skydiving (for Kay's 21st birthday). I had the amazing opportunity of teaching in China for four months. I was located at a boarding school in Xi'an that was hoping to put students into foreign, English speaking schools. I had the opportunity to travel to Shanghai, Beijing, Yangshuo, Dazhai, and Guilin. It was an amazing experience and we even got to share a little bit of it together when Kay came to China for three weeks with her grandpa to visit and do some traveling of their own.

We went on a month long backpacking adventure through Europe. Our trip took us to London, Paris, Madrid, Granada, Sevilla, Barcelona, Nice, Cinque Terre, Venice, Lucca, Florence, and Rome. The stories are endless!
