CURRENT MISSION

As a writer and organizer, I work in marine conservation (ocean acidification, sustainable fisheries). As a songwriter, I try to make songs that lift, that tell a story that matters, that affirm kindness, that stand up.

I'm an incredibly lucky man. Getting to live in this time on earth has been an unfathomable privilege.

PHILOSOPHY

Kindness works. I've had the great fortune of befriending and learning from people who do not think the same way I do. Singing is like breathing.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

New to this site, so still working this out, but I expect to enjoy hosting visitors to Seattle and occasionally arranging brief stays when traveling. I travel for work mostly, to give talks or attend meetings on marine conservation, and sometimes to perform as a songwriter (house concerts, coffee houses, folk society venues, churches, festivals...)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Over many years as a journalist and musician, I learned to love traveling by visiting with lively, curious, bright people, and I love hosting too. The world is better seen among friends.
