About Me
CURRENT MISSION
studying herbalism, Spanish, meditation, and hopefully starting on martial arts again soon
ABOUT ME
I'm bearded and vegetarian. I'm a student of herbs and herbalism, and looking to improve my connection to the wide world of the wild. I've hitch-hiked some and traveled some. Somewhat quiet, don't smoke tobacco, drink only a little. I like good conversation and good food.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't traveled or hosted much through Couchsurfing, but I have hosted many guests (friends and friends-of-friends) who were traveling or hitchhiking in the U.S. I've also slept on plenty of couches myself while traveling. So I know how wonderful it is to have a safe place to crash, and I know how to be a good guest.
Interests
medicinal herbs, edible weeds, wild plants, community-scale autonomy, wild places, complexity theory and self-organization in nature, physics, language, epic stories, postcards, organizing for liberation, music, creating radical communities of care and support

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a somewhat unlikely mix of musicians (Joy Division, the Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Sly Stone, the Pixies, Springsteen, the Slits, Can, Love, and a whole bunch of others). Mostly subgenres of rock and roll, with some dabbling outside.
In movies and books, I generally like good stories and nice aesthetic textures. I like magical realism, speculative fiction, and I have a big soft spot for science fiction and fantasy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Survived a few days hiking solo in a snowstorm that dropped a foot and a half of snow while wearing nothing but cotton and having boots that weren't waterproof.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach people about medicinal and edible uses of plants, as well as how to identify them (if I'm in a place I've lived for a while). I can teach people about physics, though I'm getting a little rusty, and I can teach some Spanish.
I'd like to learn about mushrooms, plants, and critters -- identification, habits, and uses. I'd like to learn about gardening, permaculture, and herbalism. I'd also like to learn DIY skills and grassroots disaster response.
