Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfing and hosting!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfing experience was in Vienna during the European soccer finals in 2008. After hosting a few people in my place, I've been couchsurfing throughout Asia on a big road trip with a friend. Our hosts made it into a mind-blowing experience. Delicious Turkish dinners, seeing Nizhny Novgorod in an alcohol-fueled haze, cooking freshly shot Iranian rabbit, building snow men with Kazakhstan's hottest, endless backgammon games and way way more adventures. But even CS doesn't beat spontaneous 'couchsurfing' with Iran's underground youth.
Right now I'm mostly hosting in Guangzhou. Couchsurfing is the best way of travelling: meeting great people and experiencing a place with the coolest locals you'll find!

Interests

Going out, playing soccer, music festivals, riding a motorbike, scuba diving, hanging out, wake boarding, hitchhiking, eating peanuts with chopsticks, hammocks, scaffold climbing and taking in the view, snoozing, late morning cappuccinos, adrenalin, chocolate, exploring a city and getting lost, Chinese swear words, kissing slowly, backgammon, costume parties, going where no one else goes, people watching in the park, seeing white clouds, my brothers, listening to inspiring people, jacuzzis, street art, finding beauty in everything.

Also I run my own bicycle tour company Cycle Canton. We take our guests along small streets, alleyways, parks and greenways and together experience Guangzhou in all its diversity: from urban villages with outdoor markets and a Buddhist temple to parks and greenways lined with towering skyscrapers. Visit www.cyclecanton.com if you're interested in a tour!

Music, Movies, and Books

There's music everywhere I go. Indie, rock, techno, electro, jazz: preferably live!
Arctic Monkey, Klaxons, Arcade Fire, Kasabian, De Staat, Elbow, Black Keys, The Hives, The Strokes, Wolfmother, Joy Division, The Cure and Jimi Hendrix. But also The Prodigy, Audio Bullys, The Gorillaz, Digitalism, Dr. Lektroluv, Underworld, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Waldeck,
Brother Ali, Hocus Pocus, Rafael Saadiq and Asher Roth.
Pretty much anything off main stream, and as far as possible from sugar coated Chinese pop, haha.

Love films and series, mostly art house films and anything Quentin Tarantino made. To name a few of my favorites: Amelie, Festen, Exit Through the Gift Shop, The Big Lebowski, The Usual Suspects, City of God, Requiem for a Dream. And anything Monty Python ever made. Watching Entourage caused me sleepless nights.

Like reading a book in the park. Love Shantaram, Peter Hessler's books on China, The World According to Garp, Jupiter's travels, Around the World in 80 Trades, Lord of the Flies and the list goes on and on. Also into business books like the 4 Hour work week and Stephen Covey's 7 Habits.
