ABOUT ME
My MO is definitely being active. I ride bike to get around the city, practice roller derby a couple times a week, run when there's a free moment, practice hot yoga in between the cracks, rock an occasional open mic and get all sloppy drunk with friends when the occasion calls. I'm an oil and water mix of karaoke king and meditation practitioner, or if you prefer, social scientist and mathematician. I strive to be comfortable with the discomfort of new experiences and living an existence rife with contradiction.
As often as possible (i.e. never often enough), I'm travelling, cycle touring, hiking, backpacking, and camping. The Pacific Northwest is a prime playground for these things!
I've been known to pretend to be Canadian.
My pals have all but stripped me of the term vegetarian (rightly so), but I still stick pretty closely to a plant-based diet. Cooking for others is a wonderful thing so don't be the least surprised when I try to feed you. Expect a distinct lack of meaty, fleshy, parts of animal insides. :)
PHILOSOPHY
Compassion + respect + trust
Often people are only as "stuck" in life as they've convinced themselves. Take the risk before you're ready. Doubt everything except your capabilities. Failure very rarely kills (or even sets you back) in a literal way.
Give more than you take. Let people know that they are important to you. Learn lots the hard way. Play often. Tell others you love, miss and appreciate them. Don't take stuff so damn seriously! Have dance parties DAILY! Sing loud and badly if necessary. Smile often! :)
Always use a single space between a period and the start of the next sentence. Live by this grammatic rule!
So many people are obsessed with trying to appear logical. Logic is practically mechanical and rightly designated to machines. Doing good with your actions, living in the grey areas, engaging difficult questions and being an honest communicator are the important things to try and master in life.
Update: Ye Gods! Looking back on this, I certainly hung a left on Super Serious Ave. I definitely lay down the real talk readily but keeps it light when the situation calls.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
This project is pretty fantastic and I'm happy to shamelessly promote it to friends, family and complete strangers. Telling people about CS seems to be a good personality litmus test as many others would note.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
People everywhere are generally good; CS reaffirms this notion to the Nth degree. There are so many interesting lives being lead!
Interests
"I'm interested in everything and nothing else."
More specifically...
Cycling, exploring Seattle, consciousness, science, technology, reading, podcasts, cooking, photography, making music, making things happen, opinions, people with them, open source everything, yard games (bocce & croquet), running, gardening, roller derby, film, Frisbee, and a lot of things in between.
Most importantly, I'm interested in lively people! :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies
---
Lots of film from fun, to heady and everything in between can keep me interested. Nicholas Cage anything, basically.
Books
---
Each read has something to offer. No particular favorites really. Non-fiction is generally the flavor of choice.
I'm rekindling my love for graphic novels and about to sink some time into the Fahrenheit 451 g-novel.
Music
---
I'm all over the board. A few favorites: Jack White, Ratatat, Bassnectar, Son House, Blind Willie McTell, Washed out, Childish Gambino, Bibio, Cut Copy, Cake, Chuck Berry, fun... The list continues and evolves constantly. In a funky place of finding love in the Delta blues while at the same time adopting dubstep.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
Brought down a production website with a single keystroke (risks were known!). So sad I didn't drop a "Hold on to ya butts" beforehand.
Bike tours always end up a collection of fun stories with amazing people. I've spent more than a few days on the road. Feel free to ask! :)
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach...

- you: about the excellence that is Seattle, WA!
Share with...
- me: the stories you're collecting while I'm office slaving and wishing I were adventuring. Not bitter or anything, I swear!
- you: NOTHING! NADA! ZILCH! Geez first you ask for a couch, now you're hoping for a sweeter deal?! What is this!!? ;)
