About Me

I was born and raised in Northern California (Silicon Valley) my entire life but I went to college in Southern California (Santa Barbara) as an undergraduate. The only times I have been outside of California for extended periods of time have been when I was studying abroad in Spain for a semester and a 2-month cross-country road trip across the United States. I am currently down in SoCal again attending grad school for physical therapy.

People tell me that I am a funny guy with lots of energy and that I am fun to hang out with. I enjoy hearing stories from others and telling stories of my own, so I am pretty easy to talk to as well.

I am a big fan of sports (tennis, basketball, american football) and a lot of my hobbies revolve around exercise/activity: camping/backpacking, playing sports, and training for endurance events (triathlons, long-distance runs, etc.).

I do not play any musical instruments and I cannot even draw a good stick figure, so I don't appear to have much creativity. However, I try to show my creative side when I go out dancing and when I perform my raps in weekly rap battles with classmates.

Other than that, I love to travel, meet new people, and try new experiences. I believe that experiencing new perspectives, cultures, and ways of life is very important for growing as a person.

My philosophy is "Don't Worry Be Happy": I think that people argue and worry over smaller issues in life that do not compare to the bigger issues that other people are fighting. Everyone should be able to see the good in life and not worry so much about these small issues.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far I have only participated as a surfer, but I plan on hosting as soon as I get my own place (I wasn't able to convince my mom or the current family that I am living with while I go to school).

As a surfer, I do not only use CS to save money as a broke college student with debt, but also to get the benefit of meeting locals from the places that I stay at. I have met some awesome hosts and have only had great experiences with CS! My hosts have helped me better learn the culture and history of the places I have traveled to, given me great tips on things to do and places to see that I would have otherwise not known, shared with me some amazing stories about their lives and travels, and have just overall made my travel experiences that much better! In addition, I have learned many different perspectives on life, which I believe is a necessity for growth.

I know that hosts contribute a lot more than surfers do in CS relationships. However, as a surfer, I try to participate with my host as much as they want me to (I have had some hosts that enjoyed more of a "quiet" company and other hosts that wanted to do lots of activities) and share with them the experiences that I have had as well as listening and learning from the experiences that my hosts have had. While I'm only 25 years old, I think I have had some cool experiences that my hosts are happy to hear. Doing this, I hope to become friends with my hosts and serve as a resource for them in the future if they ever decide to venture out to Cali!

Most of my couchsurfing experience was during a 2-month road trip around the United States with some friends. We did a lot of couch surfing (9 hosts for a total of 21 days) in the 15 or so so states that we stayed in. We had great CS hosts who I already talked about as being amazing people! I hope to be a great CS host one day when I get the chance.

Interests

I am an active person and that's my biggest passion. In fact, that is the main reason I am in physical therapy school: I love the idea of being someone that helps rehabbing individuals and getting them back to being active. As I have mentioned, I love playing sports and can watch pretty much any of them except for golf. The main ones I watch are basketball, american football, and tennis, while the main ones I play myself are tennis, american football, and basketball. I also love outdoor activities like hiking and camping and I am very into nutrition.

Besides the active activities, I also enjoy traveling (why else would I be on CS), relaxing with friends and family, and pretending to learn guitar.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am not the biggest book reader, as the last book I read for fun was probably Captain Underpants. I'm so excited that a movie is coming out for it!

I do enjoy music and movies though! I have a wide range in musical taste, but the main genres I'm into are Hip Hop and Rock. Some of my favorite artists are Kid Cudi, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. As for movies, I pretty much only watch comedies because my main goal is to laugh whenever I'm watching movies or videos on YouTube. Adam Sandler's and Jim Carrey's older movies used to be my favorite!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Being a member of my college's triathlon team for a year, I saw some humans achieve ridiculous physical feats at the various events that I participated in. I would say that I achieved some crazy feats in these events as well, but I was never close to any of the winners. I still think that the way I trained with my teammates and pushed myself to my limits during the triathlons was amazing.
-I got to see some amazing sights at various national parks and monuments during my huge road trip as well as during my 3-month study abroad trip in Spain.
-Did an 8 minute stand up comedy routine at a comedy club without embarrassing my mom or girlfriend too much
-I ran the beer mile (chug a beer before each of the 4 laps that make up a mile) in just over 8 minutes, with the time including the beer chugging

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd say the most I know about is tennis (I used to run my own tennis coaching business) and the human body now that I'm in school learning about it. If you need help with any of these, I'm here!

What I Can Share with Hosts

-I can share the limited amount of wisdom I have attained throughout my 25 years of life (hopefully something in there is useful)
-I definitely have had some interesting experiences and would like to think my perspectives on life are interesting as well, so those would be fun to share
-My bundle of energy and good sense of humor
-A place to stay in my home if they ever come out to Cali-forn-I-A
