About Me

Hello Couchsurfers,

it feels like "about me" should be a summary, but nowhere is it written it needs to be one. So we might be here a while :)
I haven't been much of a typical traveler in life and it might be strange that I am on couchsurfing. What I have been is a man of ideas and thoughts. Change in the surroundings for me are a source of inspiration. And that is why I love to spend more time soaking up the view of locals when somewhere new then running to touristic places (although I do visit the sites).

When talking to people, I love to find out who they are, what are their interests and their passions and if I am not aware of the details even better as I am so thirsty for more knowledge about different cultures and attitudes. As an anecdote somewhere in early 2016 through some friends a couple of girls came to Prague to attend the Olympic qualifying fencing tournament (fencer and her coach). I was one of the people keeping them company before and during the tournament and was very interested to find out more about the world of fencing (tournaments, traveling, rules, competitions, career in fencing...). When saying goodbye one of them commented that it was the most questions about fencing they have ever heard in 2 days :D

I love games of skill, be it sports or board/card games. Currently I play basketball once a week and go to squash once a week playing the local amateur league (and being pretty bad at it). About 5 years ago I was considering moving full time to playing poker online as I got pretty good at it (multitabling 24 tables at the same time) but needed to keep my day job as I was still on a working visa in Czech Republic. Maybe one day I will go back to it one day, stressful and exciting at the same time. Also dungeons and dragons is insanely fun with the right people around you :)

Lately I have been working on my health (being 35 and all) by trying to exercise more (basketball, squash) and having a healthier diet which means reducing industrial products as much as possible (sausages, cheese, highly processed food, soft drinks, etc.). Also I have purchased recently a heavy duty blender and have managed to make both almond and soy milk (quite easy), tofu (still easy), hummus (still not happy with the results) and a bunch of different smoothies. I plan to continue and add home made micro-greens into the mix as I love engineering and growing stuff and have already grown hydroponic lettuce and the only thing stopping me from growing a bunch of stuff is our tiny apartment.

One weird thing is that I don't read fiction books. In the last 15 years or so I probably read about 200+ books and they were mostly work related (system engineering, network engineering, service management, project management, people management), economics, brain development, education. Maybe 2-3 books that were fiction and can't really remember which (Old man and the sea is one a gift from my wife).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My traveling/living plan is to have enough time/money to spend 6-7 months "on the road" a year and spend winters at home. This is probably going to develop over time but at this moment I am working on buying and adapting a van suitable for urban and nature camping. It will be a stealth van so it is not easily noticeable from the outside that there might be someone inside to be able to utilize most parking spots.

My hope is that couchsurfing will allow me to meet people along the way, share experiences and learn something about them and additionally gain a safe place to park.

Interests

At the moment my biggest interests are in downsizing the footprint I have and that is one of the reasons I am looking at traveling in my van.
I am a big fan of personal development and expanding ones views.

Music, Movies, and Books

I shuffle between genres and artists in music so I have to use my google music account to check some of the latest ones :)

- Ekatarina velika (Serbian bend, rock from the 80s)
- Nirvana
- Dean Martin
- Frank Sinatra
- The Fabulous Thunderbirds
- B.B. King
- Soundtrack to The fast and the furious Tokyo drift
.....

Movie wise I pretty much watch all the new production movies :) Superhero ones were my favourite but the quality has gone down so much it is pretty bad.
Lately have been watching some older moview:
- Wag the dog (Dustin Hoffman, Robert de Niro)
- Carlitos Way (Al Pacino)
- Moonstruck (Cher, Nicholas Cage)
....
I am a big fan of series and two top notch series are "Band of brothers", "True detective series 1", these two are works of art. Also a big fan of Stanley Kubrick

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I keep trying to make it :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Something I can help out in short term is optimizing your CV and preparing you for interviews. I consult day to day in such a way and always willing to help with.
Also setting up a hydroponic garden, lights, plumbing the works. :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I would be traveling long term and quite light, I can offer conversation, pictures from past travels and skills. My cooking is not too good but I think passable :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom
