About Me

CURRENT MISSION
To live life in avoidance of regret

ABOUT ME
I'm an avid scuba diver (PADI Divemaster), FII Level 1 Freediver, spearfisherman, sailor, kayaker, and freelance writer/editor for a dive magazine and a local newspaper. I enjoy travel, fine art, guerrilla dining (eating like a local no matter where I am), movies, cycling, meditation, and anything to do with the ocean. I'm single (divorced) and lack the usual baggage (my ex and I are still great friends). Fun and exploration are definitely on the agenda! I have a degree in Philosophy... would you like fries with that?

PHILOSOPHY
Life is too short to be unhappy and there are a lifetime of experiences knocking on our doors at all hours of the day and night.

'Growing up is such a sad waste of a perfectly good inner child.'

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy travel and meeting new people. I prefer to experience a city/town like a local rather than as a tourist, so benefiting from my host's local knowledge is a huge bonus. I've had fantastic experiences as a host and a couchsurfer, and enjoy learning about people and cultures.

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movie is 'The Usual Suspects', but I enjoy films in every genre. I find merit in most music, but gangsta rap doesn't do much for me. I primarily listen to rock and roll and a little country. I also play guitar.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just ONE?! I have visited shipwrecks in depths of up to 150 feet; I've argued with sharks face-to-face about who was going to eat the sashimi I just caught; I've discovered shipwrecks; proven a 'Picasso' a forgery; I've gone swimming with wild dolphins; and I've even jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and landed on my feet.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love anything to do with the ocean and actually live on a sailboat... so needless to say, sailing, boating, diving/snorkeling just might be on the agenda. I'm also a lifelong collector of fine art and play a little guitar. I have a little bit of knowledge on many different subjects - I'm the guy my friends say they'd like to have as a lifeline on any trivia show. I currently work in marine archaeology and real estate and do some marketing consulting, but my resume looks like 3 people. I chase my dreams and sometimes catch them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My undying respect, gratitude, and appreciation.
I've actually worked as a handyman, so I'm handy around the house, cars, boats, computers, etc... I'm a good cook, a good photographer, play a little guitar, have an active sense of humor, and I have vast useless knowledge on a variety of subjects.

I can handle a boat, teach snorkeling and spearfishing, am adept at marketing (traditional and online) and have set up marketing and social media campaigns for small to medium-sized businesses. I'm good at coming up with creative solutions to complex problems, naming vessels and companies, play mediator quite well, have a good ear for listening, and give excellent counsel and advice.
