CURRENT MISSION

to live out of a tent some one threw away for another couple months north-west of life and to remain healthy, strong and broke while keeping possibilities open on the rise.

ABOUT ME

i grew up on a tiny sand-bar located on the east-coast of canada, surrounded by red sand and salty waters, and filled with fish and potato tubers. may have lived in a sand-castle for some amount of time, may not have.

i studied philosophy and english, anthropology! women's studies and a variety of odd old classes from other disciplines, and remain most interested in interdisciplinary approaches.

i have always been physically active and find myself most heavily interested in long-distance cycling and capoeira! at the present moment, though i enjoy other leisure sports as well and love cardiovascular fitness, which of course includes DANCING.

i have been involved in music for many years, doing vocals and performing with various different bands. i like the ideas of trying to blend music, theatrics and sports together in live performance, making the show interesting, and at times, intense. i have always been very excited about good new-wave/punk rock.

recently, i have returned from yellowknife, nt and great bear lake in the arctic, where i was working for 2 months at a fishing lodge, expediting, guiding training, catching boats and float-planes, and feeding the tundra wolves who we like to keep somewhat close to camp, as packs of hungry wolves are proficient at keeping the ever more dangerous grizzlies at bay.

i missed out on all of my cycling weather this season for the first time, and have decided it i would have to leave the continent to cycle as a result. cycling is always a must do.

PHILOSOPHY

i prefer not to attempt a coherent statement describing a comprehensive personal philosophy which i may or may not use as a basis of understanding my relations with the world around me. this is because of the coherency and stability of thought that this seems to suggest, and i prefer to admit paradox, discontinuity, discordancy and even contradiction as real and important aspects of any view - this may be somewhat telling in itself, but i hope to leave you with almost nothing of me at all (oh dear)...

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i'm not sure i do, though i am, at the same time, not sure i don't, either. at the moment, i'm working on becoming more involved by meeting couchsurfing members in different cities, and hoping to make it to some cs group meetings as well.

i think couchsurfing is a good way of making travel more accessible to different kinds of people, especially those who are less likely or incapable of spending large amounts of money while traveling. and this is an ethics which i can appreciate.

i also appreciate the ability to consult local people on information about their own communities, which allows me to find, at least, closer to what i am looking for when in a country or region in which i am not familiar.

there's also an important cultural exchange that can take place if those involved are interested in learning about one another's cultures, or even if they're not, often-times, as well.

i like to try and offer all of the same back to others, though i have not been geographically stable in a while and am not quite expecting to be in the nearest of futures.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

beginning, and not beginning:

i have hosted, and have been hosted with and by numerous peoples and places, but never before have i been affiliated with couchsurfing itself. mostly, i have hosted and been hosted as a result of my involvement in the local indie east-coast music scene, in canada, going to, playing, and booking different shows.

i sailed upon a very old barge, across 150 miles of unchartered waters this past summer season, in the arctic, using gps only. the captain quit when we arrived at our destination, and we three sailed back ourselves.
