About Me

I grew up in several small towns in New England, horseback riding, hiking, and pretty much all outdoor activities are instilled from birth around here. I am just as comfortable curling up with a book in the sun as I am going out with friends for movie dates or drinks. I am a fan of comic books, singing, eating every vegetable I can get my hands on, and meeting new people in strange places. My goals for the next year involve travelling and seeing all the things I always tell myself I should. Too much of life is spent wishing and not doing. If you can appreciate someone who makes bad puns and eats avocados like their life depends on it then you'll probably get along with me well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am moving to Portland, Oregon for the next year and having a hard time finding someone to rent to me because I can't meet them first as I'm still in NH/ME area. I'm looking for some help to get me started out there as I'm leaving on my own from home, again.

Interests

I'm an avid equestrian, I've been riding since I was about 6. I have trained in several disciplines but mainly I just like to hang out in a barn where nobody talks to me, not to say I'm an introvert. I love going out and meeting new people but everybody needs something they do by themselves. I try to read as often as I can but I won't lie to you and say that sometimes Netflix calls to me with it's sweet siren song. Hiking, kayaking, swimming, jaunts about the neighborhood are also activities I get down with. I'm also a singer/songwriter and will be trying to find my way into a band again once I'm out there. I also have done some modeling in the past with my amazing photographer friend who just moved to LA a few months ago so I'd love to go visit her there at some point, as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musically I am down for everything except country. Classic rock, punk, ska, rap, hip hop, forms of EDM, blues/folk, everything. Following a specific genre only gets stagnant; as long as I feel it then I like it.
Top 10 Favorite Movies: Natural Born Killers, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Donnie Darko, The Goonies, LOTR/Hobbit trilogies, Detroit Rock City, The Ninth Gate, Labyrinth, House of 1000 Corpses, Beetlejuice.
I read all kinds of books, some of my favorite authors are Anne Lamott, Anita Diamant, JK Rowling, Jack Kerouac, Charles Bukowski, Anne Rice, and Stephen King. (Fun fact: Stephen King lives in the town next to mine and he is a totally rad dude)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One thing I've done that I'm really proud of was moving across the country with no friends or support network and making it work out of sheer will power. I moved to Montana last year for seven months without knowing anybody, found a job and an apartment and just busted it out. I did a lot of camping and hiking that spring and then that summer I spent 12 hours a day refurbishing the outside of someone's house for the money to go back home. It was really depressing and lonely sometimes to not belong or know where to go but I worked hard and found my way through it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a pretty decent cook, considering it's my profession. As far as practical crafts go I can teach you to crochet or hand sew well. If you ever want to learn how to make the best guacamole of your life, I swear I am your girl. Like I said, all day I dream about avocados.
I'd like to learn about anything, I ask people a lot of questions when they talk about things I don't understand so I can pick up on their knowledge. I really want to learn some more practical things, like basic electrical/plumbing/carpentry work because it really does come in handy. I'm very interested in sustainable living practices and supporting local business, as well, so Portland area really is kind of a hub for folks like me, I feel.
I'm a very open and honest person so teaching, sharing, and learning is something I could really get behind with my hosts. I want to build experiences and memories instead of being so tunnel-visioned on getting from one point to the next and feeling like I don't remember a thing.
