Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
finding ways to get out of the city.
ABOUT ME
I'm a scientist that works in museums and libraries on their collections. So, i'm analytical, curious, and enjoy technology and art. I'm all about community and people, and find great joy in meeting others - especially those that are walking down different paths than mine.
PHILOSOPHY
i'm doing as much as i can to contribute to the world in somewhat useful ways without driving myself crazy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
chatting while i'm doing...biking, building a welder from microwave parts (still unsuccessful), baking bread, brewing beer, wood working, ...
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm totally new to couch surfing, but the concept makes a lot of sense to me. I'm a backpacker/hosteler and have been for many years for pretty much all travel - even work sponsored travel. I'm hoping this will be a novel extension of that kind of experience.
Interests
I'm a constant tinkerer and enjoy fixing electronics, bikes, and especially espresso machines. I spend my time learning how things work and how to manipulate those things, and I run a non-profit supper club out of my apartment (Mod Attelet), which is a great way for me to meet people in the neighborhood and cook great food.

Music, Movies, and Books
i'm not much of a fiction reader, but when i do, i enjoy murakami or catching up on classic early 20th century authors. movies - the french film, the Hairdresser's Husband is one of my favorites, and i spend a decent amount of time listening to public radio - This American Life stories and watching Ted Talks. I don't own a TV, but was dragged into watching The Wire, which, made me think there must be some cheap real-estate not too far from dc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Wandering through unlit alleys in Beijing, I stumbled upon a night market for the low wage migrant workers with blankets on the ground covered with books and socks and a guy shaving noodles from a huge hunk of dough into boiling water surrounded by squatting men slurping up their dinners from bowls with chop sticks.
working in a hospital in my teens, I got to witness the business end of 8 or 9 child births. That and a colonectomy, where the surgeons handed me the colon, told me to cut it open and look for polyps! both unexpected and amazing.
