About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figure out what I'm going to do with my time now that my book is being published

ABOUT ME

Nicky & I came to Victoria in 2007, me from my hometown of Revelstoke and Nic from England. I'm a freelance writer who recently finished a book of ghost stories and Nic is working toward returning to the kind of investigative work she did prior to emigrating.

At the moment we're not hosting for a variety of reasons but are still keen on meeting as many people as possible from he CS community.

PHILOSOPHY

Chances are good that there isn't a bearded man in the clouds who's going to make it all better, which means that one world and each other are all we have. So get your head out and smile.

Ghosts are real though. Seriously. I don't know if they're manifestations of the dead or not but they exist. Ask me about it if you ever want to kill a few hours.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

These days I don't, if I'm honest. I'd like to get back into it though, and hopefully with a (maybe) upcoming trip to New Orleans I can do that.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Been a host since early '06 and surfed a bit, mainly across the USA. Americans are great people who really take it in the neck when they go abroad and most of them don't deserve it. Except for people on cruise ships. Fuck those guys.

Music, Movies, and Books

The new Twin Shadow album is almost as good as "Confess", and I've been rediscovering my collection of Dropkick Murphys albums. Lately most of my listening time is eaten up by a huge collection of podcasts: Expanded Perspectives, Gralien Report, Savage Love, Skeptiko, Paranormal Podcast, 99% Invisible (I Love 99PI) and a few others.

For books, at the moment I'm plowing through Mike Dash's "Borderlands", which is an examination of fringe phenomena like altered states of consciousness, UFOs, and so on. Prior to that it was "The Siren Song of Hungry Ghosts", about the damaging effect screwing around with the supernatural had on a writer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Iceland. I love Iceland. Love. I'd like to stress that this isn't the puny, fleeting love felt by parents toward their children but a deep, abiding, "the first concert I saw was Iron Maiden and now I cry whenever I hear 'Run to the Hills'" kind of Love. Yes, with a capital "L".

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I share? Obscene enthusiasm for guitar solos and jokes that aren't necessarily funny, but are said whilst standing uncomfortably close to you so you feel obligated to laugh.

I also tell a mean ghost story.

Countries I’ve Visited

Egypt, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
