About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Our mission is to Globe Trot - but we don't whistle... or wear flashy basketball uniforms.

ABOUT ME

Brenda and I are fun people. We just want to have a good time with everyone we meet in our travels. We want to go to new places and see new things, gain new perspectives and have quality conversations with people from different or similar backgrounds. We love to live life at all speeds. We like to cook, eat, and be a little silly. Life is too short for bad friends, bad food, or bad wine.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live

Respect those who give respect and respect themselves.

Ah yea, the Golden Rule.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've hosted once and we loved it! We tried surfing around Europe a few years ago (2009) and our leads fell through, but that's la vie. We aren't able to host at the moment but after July 2012 we'll be back open for business!

Interests

Everyone likes long walks on the beach, but we like throwing people on the beach! Beach human windmills and creating monster sand castles are the only way to earn your stripes and get that street cred!

I'm addicted to all things sport - American Football, Futbol, Basketball, Rugby, Baseball, ect. We both enjoy art, architecture, history, geography and politics too.

Brenda is a fan of certain 19th century British literature, gardening (I love flowers), I was a psychology major so I love hearing people's stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

Eclectic. Between us, we like most genres. Not big fans of horror movies (but I like a couple) or metal bands etc. I'm a hip-hop head raised on Blues and Jazz. My favorite books are Native Son, Team of Rivals, The Sun Also Rises, A Long Way Gone and Kite Runner was awesome as well. I love every movie Spike Lee has done (especially Bamboozled and Do The Right Thing); big fan of Fight Club, Good Fellas, Shawshank Redemption, La Hane, and Dogma.

Brenda loves anything Will Ferrell and she is beginning to develop a little actor crush on Seth Rogen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I have seen is the sun setting behind Mount Saint Michel in Normandy France. It is the most beautiful monastary I have ever seen in person or in books.

The most amazing thing I think I've done is live two years in a small Moroccan village learning the indigenous language and culture, and feeling as welcome as I would in my own home.

Teach, Learn, Share

We know more about indigenous North African culture than any non-native ought to. Outside of that I will talk your ear off about anything having to do with American sports. I am always looking to learn more about the social interactions of people - their histories and their cultural interactions.

Did you know that Jackie Robinson (the first black American baseball player to play in the major leagues) wanted to play football more than baseball? He was part of a prolific UCLA backfield and after he had broken the color barrier in baseball, three of his former UCLA teammates collectively broke the NFL's color barrier. (Bonus: He is cousins with Jesse Owens who won several gold medals in the 1938 Olympics in Nazi Germany with Hitler watching on.)
