About Me

I'm Brendan from the lovely Helena valley nestled high in the Montana Rocky Mountains. I love the natural world, quiet nooks with warm drinks and books, music, conversation, art, and creating wonderful food.

The last few years of my life have mostly just been trying some different stuff and stumbling through life as I come closer and closer to some kind of serenity. After graduation, I began with some schooling at the University of Montana where I studied Literature, took care of most of my Gen. Eds, and spent a semester in their studio arts program.

After realizing I had no real intention with pursuing a degree, and acknowledging my stacking student debts, I decided to move back to lovely Helena where I began working with the Conservation Corps and deepening my relationship with the natural world. This was a wonderful way for me to get a new perspective on the world and begin to appreciate the virtues of genuine physical labor. As the Montana winters are frigid and unyielding, I decided to pursue some Barista work in Missoula as a way to quietly follow up my strenuous season of work.

Since then I've been working in Missoula as a manager of a small little coffee and sandwich shop, enjoying the surrounding nature, building relationships, staying out late, getting up early (sometimes) and just sort of enjoying life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Im couchsurfing because I scored a gig with the Arizona Conservation Corps as a crew leader for their fall season (Aug - December.) Throughout this time Ill be bouncing back and forth between the lovely wilderness surrounding Tucson and the sunny city its self!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of stuff, indie rock stuff is probably my favorite. I love mellow guitar stuff with somewhat complex rhythms.

My favorite book is East of Eden, and Ive really been enjoying reading the Hobbit recently as well as Gabriel Garcia Marquez's short stories!

My favorite movie is probably Wet Hot American Summer. But generally, I love animation and Pixar movies as well as some cerebral or just plain campy horror! Also anything in between.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

At the end of my Montana Conservation Corps stint I got to go over to Detroit and work on some flood relief projects for a month with various other Americorps programs. This was an awesome experience to just be able to be in the inner city and just work on a project that allowed me to directly help people effected by crazy uncontrollable circumstance!

Teach, Learn, Share

Id love to play and even maybe help teach some music with anyone! I play some guitar (though drums are actually my first instrument.) I love learning what I can from anyone and am always receptive to that sort of thing! Id love to share meals and recipes and cook with whomever!
