About Me

Bloody hell mate, straya!!

I'm an easy going and down to earth guy. Pretty honest and quite gullible, so don't trick me! I love traveling to meet new people and to see and taste new things.

I've done a fair bit travelling over the years and have now been to all continents but Antarctica. At the moment I'm on a pretty decent trip, I left home in September 2015 and went through SE Asia for 8 months, including a 4 month volunteering stint in Cambodia. After that I went through Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, China and Mongolia before crossing the Asia/Europe border in Russia and have since been to most countries in Europe!

I have recently been living in France with my friends who are in a Nu-Reggae band called The Sunvizors. I have been helping them out as photographer and roadie, and its been a wild time, check out their tunes!!

I'm a pretty laid back guy and keen to go with the flow. If I'm lucky enough to stay with someone I'll be happy to help out with house chores or any other errands or jobs that need doing.

I'm very friendly and always looking for a good conversation to share some knowledge, stories and other tales.

PHILOSOPHY
Don't just dream it, LIVE IT!!
You can't control the weather or the whales
Time and tide waits for no man (or woman)
Go with the flow
Change will do you good!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The main reason I'm couchsurfing is to just have a good conversation and hang out with my host. I enjoy meeting new people in the countries I visit to hear their stories and learn more about them, otherwise what's the point right? Crowded hostels can be a bit overwhelming and typically only meet other travelers, but I want to meet locals. It would also be more ideal where my host has a bit time for me, maybe show me around or just enjoy a good chat.

I also want couchsurfing to help me experience the true culture of the place I am visiting. I am very interested in being introduced to the food of the region or from where my hosts come from and to see and do what the locals would do.

History is also intriguing to me and I like reading about the area I am staying in and to see the important sites.

I am new to couchsurfing but I have regularly hosted my travel buddies when they come to visit Australia over the years and really think its a great way to travel.

Interests

The environment means a lot to me and single use plastics kill me. Recycling is great but a world without waste would be ideal. If only there was a way to educate the whole world on how much environmental damage we are all doing each day and how to live life in a more sustainable way.

I've been getting into landscape photography a bit lately and really enjoying trying to capture the scenery, but of course photos never do it justice.

I love cooking! Let's get in the kitchen with a wine and teach each other a few tricks, or I can just cook for you.

Gardening is a real hobby of mine and I find it very rewarding to grow my own veggies and herbs for food.

I like to play guitar when I get the time and have started to learn the harmonica. Song and poetry writing has also stemmed from my guitar playing and it's a great way to clear the head.

I play AFL back home which is a toe of football only played professionally in Australia, pretty interesting game if you haven't seen it before.

I like reading a gripping book and enjoy watching a good film.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite type of music comes from the late 60's through to the 70's. Rock and roll at it's best!

Outside of this I listen to all other types of rock, jazz and blues and any tune that gives me a melody to make me tap.

I like all types of music and always open to hear new genres. It's been great to hear all the different types of world music on my travels and am keen to research and listen to new tunes.

Going to gigs is also a favourite, so go on and lets go see some good music.

I have also dabbled in guitar and have written quite a few unfinished songs. It would be great to play together and finish some off.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When snorkeling in Bay of Islands in New Zealand, I dove down towards a school of fish. They surrounded me and began circling. I held my breath and the school was swimming around me with their little eyes sussing me out the whole time, just amazing. This was before the gopro/underwater camera times so unfortunately no evidence, just a great memory!

Went Paragliding in Rio, that was an amazing experience!

Surfed with a couple of penguins in the ocean a few hours south of Sydney, super!

Spent over a month in Ireland (Republic and the North) and caught only 3 buses, saw most of the country by means of hitchhiking with the beautiful people there :)

Completed a 372km hike in the Scottish Highlands, some of which was solo. The Cape Wrath Trail, said to be the toughest in the UK!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a little bit on guitar so can help to teach a beginner some tunes.

I love cooking, so would be great fun to share some different styles of cooking.

Sharing some good stories and travel tales. It's always amazing to hear where other people have been and what they have seen.

I want to learn another language, so any help along the path would be awesome.

I'm happy to help out around the place or with general errands, volunteer or charity work.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Travel experience and recommendations on where to go. Be good to hear your thoughts on Europe too!

Music knowledge and an introduction to some new music. If I really feel comfortable I might even share some songs I've written.

I'm a project manager so if be happy to help organise your place or your life if you need it :)
