About Me
CURRENT MISSION
For myself, to find contentment and bring myself home, and to get to know this great world of ours; for the world, to help make peace and balance from the ground up.
ABOUT ME
I especially love the wonders of the natural world, language and languages, and music. I am very interested in different cultures and traditions. Because I'm something of a shy and quiet introvert, people sometimes think I'm not friendly - but the truth is that I think people are wonderful creatures, and I like to get to know them.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm new to CouchSurfing. I am not in a situation to host visitors right now, but I look forward to hosting in the future. In the meantime, I am a very easy, mild-mannered guest. I will happily wash dishes, clean up, and help cook or cook you a meal!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm pretty new to this (in terms of experience if not time I've had my profile), but I think it's great. So far I've stayed with one great host in Norway and look forward to more experiences and someday hosting people. Since I grew up at a retreat center with lots of guests coming through my home, hospitality, the appreciation of hospitality, and meeting people from all walks of life are very important to me. I like the way CS manifests these things.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite kind of music is traditional music, especially from the Celtic countries, Scandinavia, and the US and Canada. I love the fiddle, and I play harp, piano, and a couple of other instruments.
I mostly enjoy "independent" and "foreign" films, whatever that means. Some Hollywood movies are good. But I don't watch movies very often anyway.
A couple of my favorite books: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson and His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. This list is in no way exhaustive.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once I spent the night at the top of a mountain near my home with my sister and a friend. The next morning, we got an incredible sunrise: the familiar landscape far below us was all shrouded in mist. As the sun rose higher, the mountain made a shadow in the fog with a little ring of rainbow colors crowning the summit - a crown that also hovered above my own house in the hills to the west. It was a simple epiphany of connection to place that I won't soon forget.
Teach, Learn, Share
If you need help with your English, I have some English-teaching experience. (I could also give help in some of the other languages I listed.)
If you play music, I could also teach some music from my traditions and I'd love to learn some of yours in return.
