About Me

I'm currently in grad school finishing my masters in taxation. I work part-time for a tax attorney.

I've been sober for coming up on 6 years now, and I spend a lot of my spare time doing recovery-related things. I am the founding member of UTA's student recovery organization. I also enjoy spending time with my recovery friends and working one-on-one with newly sober folks.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm totally new to couch surfing. I learned about it on a recent solo trip I took backpacking around Southeast Asia. I stayed primarily in hostel dorms and really loved the camaraderie of staying with fellow solo travelers. I even made a friend in Bangkok who I ended up spending New Years Eve with in Chiang Mai. This concept of joining forces spontaneously on the road was an entirely new and amazing experience for me. I loved it!

I later spent 10 days at a yoga & meditation retreat in Cambodia where most of the other guests were also solo travelers, and they shared all sorts of similar stories with me and told me about couch surfing experiences they had had.

What seems most cool about couch surfing to me is that it seems like you can get a taste of that experience without necessarily having to travel to the other side of the planet. And even going to familiar places can be a new experience seen through this different lens. So as I set my sights set on exploring other parts of the world, near and far, new and old, I look forward to meeting new friends along the way.

Interests

I'm relatively new to yoga but enjoy it. I recently went on a 10-day yoga & meditation retreat in Cambodia.

I really enjoy running, especially in new places -- making time for runs in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Cambodia was high on my list of priorities on that trip. I also enjoy running with others, so if you're game, I'm in.

And I love cooking (and eating) delicious vegan food.

Music, Movies, and Books

I most often listen to top 40 pop music, but I also enjoy contemporary Christian, classical, opera, country, hip hop. I don't listen to much jazz or classic rock.

I like action, thriller, and horror flicks. Deep dramas, sappy love stories, comedies are also good. Lately, I'm hooked on documentaryaddict.com.

My favorite author is Stephen King for fiction. On the self-improvement front, I'm currently reading The Power of Now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2012

Teach, Learn, Share

I can be a bit philosophical and get revved up talking about the things I'm passionate about, like many of the interests I've written about in answering these questions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I look forward to swapping stories of life & travels and doing a bit of exploring... Plus, I make a really mean pumpkin waffle! So if you've got a waffle iron, breakfast is on me! (If not, no problem -- pancakes instead!)

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, Canada, France, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Tanzania, Thailand
