About Me

ABOUT ME

Hey! My name is Brent and I am a 22 year old undergrad business student studying in Singapore, a tiny country of five-million in Southeast Asia. I am a New Zealander by birth, but the longer I live in Asia the lesser and lesser I feel like a Kiwi! Probably because my relative height in Singapore makes me feel like a giant, rather than a hobbit (Gandalf perhaps?)!

I am currently an exchange student in Barcalona, Spain at ESADE Business School until December 2015 so am looking to Couchsurf my way across Europe and meeting many great people along the way. Cannot wait to get travelling and see the awesome sights of Europe. I am a very outgoing person, and love to embrace local cultures and gain a greater understanding of how people from all over the world live.

I'd like to think I'm a pretty social person, who is reliable and trustworthy. I'm the type of person who is very easy to get along with and can be relied upon to be a good surfer at your home. In saying that, I am always up for anything and believe the best experiences while travelling are those you don't read from a book. The real experiences are in the journeys and not the destination.

That's probably enough rambling, can speak more when I come visit you in your beautiful country's across the globe!

Interests

I love many sports, primarily snowboarding and wakeboarding - how convenient right! One for the summer and one for winter! I also enjoy playing Tennis and play every chance I get. Unfortunately all the above sports are difficult to maintain in Singapore, with the obvious heat limiting for instance Tennis matches to the border-line limit before you get heat stroke! Nonetheless, whenever I have a chance you'll find me doing one of the above!

Other than sports I love discussing world current affairs and news. Anything to do with business, I'd be the first to listen in. I am also a big reader of non-fiction autobiographies, and enjoy watching movies and TV shows.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite Music Album - Drake: "If you're reading this, it's already too late"
Favourite Movie - "Kingsman"
Favourite Book - "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed Mt Doom (Mt Ngauruhoe) in January 2015 in New Zealand. Absolutely amazing sight, if you haven't done it, you are seriously missing out. Simply beautiful! Another amazing experience was visiting Borobudur at sunrise in Indonesia - watching the runrise behind Mt Merapi (constantly erupting volcano) was brilliant and saintly at such a historic monument.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my vast experiences as a young person who has lived across three different continents in my lifetime, understanding local customs and cultures. For instance, before living in Southeast Asia I had no idea just how diverse the cultures, the food, the language, and the people are between the countries. Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore for instance are vastly different, not to mention the rest of the ASEAN region. I can also share my experiences growing up at the bottom of the earth in New Zealand, and share the cultural icons we embrace in New Zealand such as the indigenous Maori haka and our famous All Blacks Rugby team.
