About Me
Me and a friend are walking from Key West, FL to Fort Kent, Maine in 2018. We started in Key West on January 27th and plan to finish our walk in August. We are two males and a well-mannered dog. Our reason for walking is to bring awareness to the overdose crisis in our country. In 2014, I lost my sister to a heroin overdose and since then my purpose has been to try to prevent other families from going through the same thing. In 2016, I walked from Delaware to California. It went so well that I organized another walk and invited others to join. That is where my friend comes in. He is walking to bring attention to the children left behind from the devastation of this epidemic. We travel through communities at 3 mph and get to take in the sights, sounds, and smells at a speed that we were designed to process them. We walk over 20 miles a day so we come and go quickly but always take the time to talk to the communities along the way. Our main goal is to keep the conversation going about the crisis and to show people that compassion is a big part of the solution.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We are looking for places to call home for a night while keeping our travel expenses low. We saved up our own money for this walk so we are on a limited budget. All of the money we are raising along the way goes to a nonprofit that helps people with troubled pasts learn to have happy and healthy futures.
