Hello! My name is Brett. I am an English teacher from the US and currently residing in Beijing for a few months. However, I will be leaving China and continuing my south-Asia travels beginning in February. I hope to meet some amazing friends along the way.

I just recently finished a two year contract teaching in Yap, Micronesia, a small island between Guam and Palau. Before that I taught in Hawaii for two years and the Marshall Islands for four. For this school year, I decided to take a year off to do some traveling. My current plan is to continue visiting Southeast Asia and the beautiful surrounding countries.

Every country I have had the privilege of either living in or visiting has touched me in a special way. My childhood was spent in USA and Canada, and my years of teaching have led me all over the world from Russia all the way to Micronesia. The fondest memories I have are those places I’ve spent the most time in. While I do love traveling, growing up with people, in my opinion, creates the best memories.

I’ve learned it’s not about the number of countries visited, but rather it’s about the time spent, people met, positive changes made, and adventures had in each one.

I love to read, write, walk, hike, play the piano, and of course travel. I am guilty of spending hours scrolling through social media, so recently I’ve gotten rid of my Instagram to try and make my life more productive and meaningful. As I’ve stated, I’m an English teacher, and it’s a profession I thoroughly enjoy. While I’ve instructed and tutored mostly high school and college age students, the level I’ve predominantly taught has been beginner to intermediate level as most of my students are learning English as a second language. Despite this, I want to improve in my profession and have furthered my education to help me do so.
