About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mission? To live and enjoy - and support people along the way.

ABOUT ME

There's a lot of say. I love travelling, doing community social justice work, riding bikes, hanging out with friends. While traveling I enjoy hanging out with people, the food!, the arts (going to museums, music, theatre - you name it), hiking, biking, camping, relaxing and lots more. I like to wander, enjoy and end up in places and situations I hadn't expected!

Oh, yeah, I'm queer and Trans. So if that's going to be an issue for you, we shouldn't hang out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can't host people right now. I haven't hosted that many people yet through couch surfing, but I've hosted many, many friends, friends of friends, sisters of friends, sister's uncle's cousin's nephew's former roommates of friends, etc. We often have travelling bands, social justice folks, and people we are helping out sleeping on our couch. I'm queer and trans, and would be into showing queer/LGBTQ folks around Calgary, and being a safe space for them to stay (if that works out).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couch surfed in Nice (France), Athens (Greece), Edinboroug (Scotland), London (UK), San Fransisco (US), Portland (US), Seatle (US), and NYC (US). They were some of the coolest people and nicest places to stay I've ever encountered.

The person I stayed with in Athens made me this amazing traditional Greek meal with some food he harvested himself from the Palapanese Mountains - so cool! He even told me the secret ingredient to authentic Greek salad. If we ever meet I will share it with you :)

Another CS highlight for me was staying in the common room of a University dorm at NYU (New York City). Though staying in the common room had its downsides, it was amazing to go for nights on the town with my host. I was only 19 then, so it was quite the adventure to be in the big apple!

Interests

I have so many interests, it's hard to write them in any way other then a list, so here goes:

-the arts: photography, music, painting, drawing, reading, writing, theatre, musicals etc.

-Community work

-bikes (riding them and fixing)

-Environmentalism

-Feminism

Music, Movies, and Books

Fantasy books (yeah, I'm a geek), and feminist and queer theory. Favourite books include: Stone Butch Blues, and the Mists of Avalon (though I haven't read that one since I was a teenager, but it was very significant at the time).
Music: Anything Riot Grrl, Patti Smith, old blues music like Muddy Waters

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once went on a 7 month trip to Europe in 2005. I especially loved Barcelona, Istanbul and some things about the Greek Islands (the natural beauty of Red Beach on Santorini, though I could live without the hoards of tourists). I loved the arts, culture, and active resistance I was seeing everywhere, but eventually I came to miss the big skies of Alberta and the ease of getting into the wild that exists in Canada.

In 2010 I went on a gay-cation to Amsterdam and Lesvos (a Greek Island) and had an amazing time. The slow pace of life and love of bicycles in Amsterdam really suited me, as well as the beautiful land and friendly people on Lesvos.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am able to share extensive knowledge on bike mechanics and am generally handy. If you need a hand fixing you're bike, I'd be glad to lend a hand and am even happier to teach you how to fix it.

I know how to silk screen, compose good photographs, draw and many other art related things. I am good at teaching these things.

I also am a hair dresser on the side, so if you are hosting me, I'd be happy to give you a hair cut (let me know in advance so I can bring my hair cutting kit).

I am interested in learning languages, about all cultures, music, cooking etc. I have some knowledge/skill about all these things too.

I also interested in learning whatever the world has to teach: sometimes you don't even know what knowledge you are seeking till you find it.
