ABOUT ME
I have been a traveler all my life. I lived in France when I was younger and then moved back to the U.S. and I feel like I have been moving ever since!
PHILOSOPHY
The unexamined life is not worth living.
Life is all about experience, but we have to remain aware of how we are part of the experience of everyone else.
Also, weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them. - Eeyore
Unless they are invasive, but even then, it's not the plant's fault... something to ponder
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In my travels, I sometimes rely on the hospitality of others (the abundance of which is always inspiring) but I take away more than a place to sleep. It's a chance to learn and talk and share experiences.
Lately, I have been able to host more surfers in both Idaho and Utah where I currently reside, which has been a great way to pay it forward.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I drove to the west coast and back without ever getting a hotel room except for a hostel in Flagstaff, which I paid for with labor. Far from just facilitating the trip, the places I stayed each contributed to an amazing experience and I hope my presence was also enriching.
I have come to rely on Couchsurfing for my travels both home and abroad and I try to host as much as possible.
I have stayed with hosts in Central America, all over the states, and a little bit in Europe.
Interests
I love sharing ideas!
As a graduate student, I study the human dimensions of the environment so I am obviously very interested in social sciences especially regarding human/nature relationships.
I also enjoy cooking, botany, herbal medicine, books, philosophy, art, science.
Also, I am an avid board game enthusiast. And I don't mean monopoly! :) I have been to conferences for two things in life: academics and board games.
- arts
- books
- cooking
- vegetarian
- flowers
- board games
- traveling
- music
- hiking
- camping
- skiing
- ecology
- medicine
- science
- sociology
- mountain biking
Music, Movies, and Books
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (both book and movie). I love Agatha Cristie novels and Discworld novels. I also appreciate the classics and I am a fan of dystopian novels (1984, Brave New World) and I really appreciate Margret Atwood's amazing vision. Watchmen is perhaps my favorite graphic novel.
Lately, I read more non-fiction than fiction, however.
I also appreciate classic movies. And by classic I mean Ghostbusters! However, I am also a fan of Casablanca.
When it comes to music, I find it enriching and very much enjoy many times of music but I am truly agnostic in terms of genre and honestly, I admit that I am not that much of a fanatic about particular types.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Traveling across the U.S. for a summer is a worthwhile endeavor.
This summer (2017) I have spent traveling across Europe.
Travel is always amazing and mind-opening and I try to travel as much as humanly possible.
Teach, Learn, Share
I always want to improve my cooking (I am a vegetarian)!
And I have picked up a thing or two.
If you are interested in environmental sociology or social science theory about human/nature relationships and community, I would love to talk about it with anybody.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Positive open energy most of all.
I am someone who is always eager for a new experience so I can always offer my full attention and absolute enthusiasm for any experience of adventure.
I am also an avid board game fan and usually have a few on me if you want to play :)
Also, I would love to buy you a drink (or two!) and I can do my best to cook for you
