About Me

CURRENT MISSION

What could be better about the freedom of knowing how to travel on a tight budget and at the same time developing new relationships?

ABOUT ME

I'm a simple, easy to please young professional. Grew up in rural West Virginia, and school and lifes twists and turns have brought me to Chapel Hill, NC.

I work at the university of North Carolina-chapel hill as a Clinical Trials Manager for patients with bleeding and clotting disorders. In my previous position, we ran clinical trials exploring the effects of fitness and exercise programs on cancer outcomes before, during, and after cancer treatment. Currently, I still work on clinical trials for the UNC Cancer hospital, but they are drug treatment trials, as well as trials exploring new/alternative treatments for Hemophilia patient care.

I hike, bike, play tennis, ski, cook a bunch, and will spend hours playing board games (esp. Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Monopoly Deal, Sequence).

PHILOSOPHY

"Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are traveling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind!"
-Henri Frederic Amiel

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Originally joined couchsurfing in an attempt to go to the western US for an internship for grad school. On a college "salary" I absolutely did not have enough for rent in the areas I was looking to stay in. Now, I'm simply convinced that our culture has stripped us Americans of our desire to be hospitable and open our homes to others to help or just to build relationships. I see no reason to stay in a hotel when I can save money and make a new friend.

COUCH SURFING EXPERIENCE

Had my first and only experience in early June of 2017. I was incredibly grateful to my host and my friends and family whom I was visiting thought I was crazy and probably cheap - do I care? Not in the least. After the experience and my retelling of the experience story to the naysayers, I could see the desire in their eyes that says "maybe I've been missing out?"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

hmm...I save an elderly womans life who fell over an embankment into a briar/creekbed. I guess to learn more, you'll have to let me crash!

Teach, Learn, Share

Something to teach: We must to learn how to have genuinely positive relationships with 1. God 2. others and 3. ourselves.
There is nothing better than great relationships and amazing experiences.

Something to share: I've learned more from jumping out of my comfort zone by just dong things, than I ever have in my formal education--it's really almost worthless.
