About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to explore my world and share what I have

ABOUT ME

Briana: I could be characterized as an adventure junkie. I am not happy unless I am knee deep in some adventure or another. I get antsy being cooped up for too long.

During the school year, I try to get out almost every weekend to pursue some outdoor activity. I am an avid skier and was able to get 37 days in last season. I am also a runner and cyclist. I have run 5 marathons and completed three centuries (2 of them on a tandem with Josiah). I am also into climbing. I sport climb, mostly at the local rock gym but I am working at getting on real rock more often.

Because I have summers off, I try to cram in as much adventure as possible into 2 months. I am gone a lot in the summer and probably can't host too often.

Josiah: I like the same things as Briana, that's why we're together :)

"A weird, lovely, fantastic object out of nature like Delicate Arch has the curious ability to remind us--like rock and sunlight and wind and wilderness--that out there is a different world, older and greater and deeper by far than ours...The shock of the real. For a little while we are again able to see, as the child sees, a world of marvels. For a few moments we discover that nothing can be taken for granted, for if this ring of stone is marvelous, then all which shaped it is marvelous, and our journey here on earth, able to see and touch and hear in the midst of tangible and mysterious things-in-themselves, is the most strange and daring of all adventures." - Edward Abbey

PHILOSOPHY

We strive to live life to the fullest and experience as many things and places as we can while we are here on this earth. We want to make the most of each moment and truly be present so we don't let life pass us by. We want to stop and smell the flowers more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Briana: I have seen many truly amazing things in my life and I hope to continue to see many many more. One of the most rewarding and touching things I've had the opportunity to see firsthand is how my students can learn and grow as people and how I can impact their lives. This gives me hope for the future.

Other amazing things I've seen/done:
-I went on a week long rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. It was an amazing and life-changing experience which I highly recommend doing in your lifetime.
-I have run 4 marathons: Long Beach, Marine Corps, San Francisco, and the Death Valley trail marathon - each of these has been a test of my physical and mental ability and I have learned so much about myself through these experiences
-I have had the opportunity to travel around Europe twice with a school study trip. It is amazing and eye-opening to experience other cultures and learn the histories of different places. I especially enjoyed and want to return to: Chamonix, Zermatt, Leysin, Moneglia, and Cinque Terre

Josiah: I spent a month traveling the West with just me, my motorcycle, and a good pair of hiking boots.

Teach, Learn, Share

Briana is an 8th grade computer teacher. We use many Mac programs that I would be comfortable teaching to others - iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, etc. I could also give marathon training tips that have helped me progress as a runner.

I have started learning guitar, but not been very good about practicing. Someday I hope to be able to play and sing :)

What I want to share: experiences, memories, hopes, dreams

Josiah is a computer geek at an environmental lab, an avid cyclist and a microbrew appreciator.
