Hello! I am lover of life; a liver of life! These are the passions currently fueling my fire: the never-ending process of self discovery, the sharing of love with other people, expanding into the immense variety of cultures and landscapes across the world, and engaging nature with the thrill of rock climbing, surfing, and skiing. Back home, my van (house!) is in storage. I landed in Europe in September 2018 and am engaged in some open ended travel. So far, my favorite experiences have been meeting strangers and getting into long talks with them about the deeper meaning of life (and one very epic day of rock climbing in the Tatras of Slovakia!). I would like to spend as much time as I can getting into local culture and and exploring nature.

A brief history of the Life of Brian: after University I decided to take a 1 year break between undergaduate and graduate school, and moved to a ski resort to bar tend and dive deeper into the sport of skiing. This "one year break" lasted 8 years. I fell deeply in love with skiing, and discovered my giant passion for rock climbing. After about 6 years, I felt the call to get out into the world in a diffrent way, and found myself living in Nicaragua for 6 months. There I was blessed to stumble upon two previously unknown passions of mine: immersion into foreign culture and surfing. A year later, I felt a similar calling for change, and with a little money saved up I bought an old beat up van, converted it, and spent most of a year traveling the western United States. I knew I was searching for something but didn't know what. In beautiful flow from the Universe, I "randomly" found myself with a job that I am truly enthusiastic about, utilizes my specific talents (and my university degree, hah ), and that allows me to travel while working. I still have Ol'Blue (my van), she is loaded up with all my ski, surf, and climbing gear, and since the beginning of 2018 I have been learning how to balance this new employment with my travels.

I am on Couchsurfing to expand my horizons. I want to meet and get to know new people, get away from the mainstream tourist path, immerse myself in culture, make connections, and travel to more and more places to see what else is out there on the infinitely abundant rock that we call Earth.

Favorite Music: I am a full on sucker for the rock and roll jam-band "Phish". That said, I have found myself loving all genres of music (except super agressive heavy metal). I love learning others' favorites and sharing mine.

When I was 22 years old, I had just graduated from university, and I would have said "Without any doubt, in 10 years, I will have a prestigious engineering carreer, a house, nice cars, a spouse, and children". It sounds rather silly for me to say this now, but at the time I was incapable of considering any other way to live. It was was a slow proccess that involved reading certain books, journaling, spending a lot of time alone in nature, meeting people from different walks of life, and listening to my intuiton, but 10 years later, I am proud to say that I have broken free of the programing from my childhood that led me to believe that there was only one way to live. As I look back on my life, this internal shift is just about the most amazing thing I've done....which is kinda funny, because I certainly didn't do it on purpose!

I view teaching, learning, and sharing as all being part of the same interactive process that happens when we spend quality time with one another. I know that when we meet and start sharing, that we will both teach and learn from the other. I am stoked to meet you and see what we come up with. Maybe you will introduce me to a new food that I've never heard of and it changes my life! ..I can tell you that people sometimes find my understanding of why I love skiing, surfing, and rock climbing so much to be particularly intruiging.
