About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to feel happy and fulfilled in my life.

ABOUT ME

I am an atypical person, though I guess that's a pretty typical way to describe oneself.

I like trying new things, seeing new places, meeting new people, verbing new verbs, and listening to new music.

I like to describe myself as an accidental modern-day hippie, although to some I probably seem the opposite.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a somewhat paradoxical mixture of a hedonist, an optimist, a skeptic, and a political nihilist. Science, reason, and emotion are my guides.

I rank the pursuit of self-knowledge above all others. I highly value personal relationships. I abhor violence as a solution to problems and I believe the world lacks empathy.

Interests

I like thinking critically, spending time with friends, traveling, reading, listening to music, and doing a bunch of other cool shit.

Lately I've been thinking of ways to apply my skills to entrepreneurial endeavors. My primary interests are economics and psychology.

I love kids (and other small mammals) and I hate seeing them mistreated.

All in all, most of my time is spent around my great friends. The rest of the time my head is in the clouds where it belongs.

Music, Movies, and Books

For me, music is more about melody, repetition, and imagination than about language or messages, but there are always exceptions.

I like lots of different genres, but my favorites are metal and electronic music. Pop, rock, musicals, J-music, and folk are also high on my list.

As for books, I mostly read non-fiction (economics, biology, psychology, etc) but I recently read the ASOIAF series and loved it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The mindfuck that comes with long bouts of introspection has left me pretty awestruck in the past.

Travel-related? Hmm, I guess traveling along the Li River in China observing the Super Mario-esque landscape was pretty awe-inspiring. Or standing atop Huangshan and gazing at the stars with zero clouds or light pollution for the first time in my life.

When I was exploring a rainforest in Thailand my group was approached by a wild elephant. That was definitely awe-inspiring.
