About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make meaningful art, experience new things, and invest in the lives of really great people!

Through this site I'd like to connect with folks who value human connection as much as I do. I think friendship is more valuable than "fame and fortune," and I love giving and sharing resources for its own sake. I also have endless personal projects I'm working on, so I get along great with hosts who enjoy hanging out and talking, but who also feel no pressure to entertain me. I certainly have plenty of work to do and am happy to entertain myself as well. (To work on my projects—and also to connect with the people I need to connect with while traveling—reliable WiFi is pretty crucial to me, so please just let me know if you think I should honestly make alternate plans. Additionally, I'm really allergic to nicotine, as well as to excessive amounts of cat/dog fur, so again please just let me know honestly, if I should find somewhere else to stay. Nearly all my pet-owning CS hosts have kept their place clean enough that that hasn't been a big issue, but the nicotine poses a significant health problem for me even if you smoke outside or use a vape pen/e-cig.)

I love it when hosts are up-front and honest about house rules, and how I can best show respect for the living space I’m using. I also like to stay long enough that the host and I really get to know each other, but without overstaying my welcome either. Kindly just communicate your wishes and preferences!

ABOUT ME

I might be the most selfless narcissist (in the classical sense) that I know. We have to know we are something worth giving to the world, or else it would be rather unloving to give of ourselves.

PHILOSOPHY

Happiness lacks depth and potency if sought with no regard for community.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed several times so far, and it's proven such a great idea! I love sharing, and I love meeting new people. Getting to know someone's story is like exploring a parallel universe.

I've used CS to facilitate four cross-country trips. Now I'm looking to see the last two states I've not yet seen: Alaska and Hawaii!

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that makes me think! It's gotta engage me, and demand something of me.

I'm also writing a math book these days, called "Holymonkeyboogers of x" (it's my fifth book, but my first math book), and I'm also making a trading-card game. (So far, I've released just the base game.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went five years without experiencing the sensation of boredom, with one exception: when I went skydiving. I remember thinking (while I was falling two and a half miles), "I think I'd rather be having a heart-to-heart talk with a friend right now, at a coffee shop. That's more exciting for me." I didn't go skydiving for the rush anyway; I did it to get over my fear of heights. And, for that, it worked.

I like facing my fears as head-on as possible.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you have need of a spare key for your place, one thing I like to offer: if you want it, I'll go to the hardware store and make you a spare, covering the cost myself (and leaving the key for you and your future guests afterward). One caveat: I get to choose the design! :)

Let me know if you like games, and I can bring one/some!
