About Me

Help and meet up with travellers in BKK.

ABOUT ME

I am interested in learning about people from all different cultures and want to know more about their viewpoints on life, the experiences they have had and have fun in the process. Travelling and having many friends from different cultures has changed my outlook on life, and I am continually learning about myself and the world. I believe to learn is to live and one should never stop learning.

PHILOSOPHY

Learn from everyone, enjoy life and help others do the same.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have co-hosted with my roommate in the past and enjoy meeting up for a cup of coffee or food.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My relatively few experiences hosting surfers and going to meet ups have been positive, most definitely looking forward to more experiences in the group. Usually taking a guest around the city to show them where to go and how to get there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am not quite able to articulate the beautiful sunrise at Wat Tham Sua in Chaing Mai. I woke at 3:45AM restless and unable to sleep. My biological clock gone haywire after my 16 hour journey, jetlagged yet anxious. So what else to do but get on my scooter and explore. So I left my travel companion sleeping in the hotel and drove atound exploring. Following the road it began to wind and rise for a few miles. At several points I was unsure if I would be pushing the scooter due to the steep incline and the small motor, but trustily, almost begrudgingly it carried me up the mountain.

Atop the mountain I found two dragons at the edge of a parking lot, which were attached to the handrails of what seemed to be hundreds of stairs. Guess it was time for a morning stair run, so I leapt upwards 2 at a time to see what I might find. As I approached the summit I began to hear chanting and caught the glimmer of gold and flames dancing off the water in a fountain/pool. As I made my way through the Wat, from one Buddha to the next, from green to gold to ivory and jade, some looking brand new and others showing the age of centuries the experience became very spiritual.

I was sampling such a different soiritual experience than I had ever known. Filled with wonder I made my way to see dozens of monks chanting, yet I was all alone in this strange new world. All the while darkness was giving way to light until I was finally able to see the view the wat offered on the mountain. With the sun up my hunger began, and I was off to meet the city of Chaing Mai.
After descending the stairs on my way back to the scooter and my slumbering friend, I was greeted my many merchants and tourists. Buses were arriving and shops were being opened. Hundreds of Idols statues and relics were being put on display. This totally transformed parking lot would have made the experience so much more touristy and less personal had I only been able to sleep....
