About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world while studying for my Masters in International Humanitarian Action

ABOUT ME

I'm adventurous and love to talk to new people. I've visited over 30 countries and have lived in 7 countries outside the USA (Afghanistan, Austria, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Republic of Georgia, Middle East, Ireland). I've worked mostly in humanitarian aid and development work starting out in former soviet Central Asia. That is where I started studying Russian.

PHILOSOPHY

"When you are green you are growing, when you are ripe, you rot." - I can't remember where this quote is from, but I love it. It means for me to constantly step outside of yourself, your comfort zone, and experience life. Learn!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think of myself as being rather new to the couch surfing community, even though I travel quite often. I made some great friends while traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with people in Canada, the UK and other European locales and loved it. People are so kind and wonderful. I'm a pretty easy going person and generally can take care of myself, so I guess it was easy for my hosts because I was such an easy guest.

Interests

Getting out and about in different cities and meeting people from all walks of life. I know that sounds like a cliche, but it is true that my life has been enriched by the viewpoints of people from different countries.

Music, Movies, and Books

Terry Gilliam, Woody Allen and other movie directors who like be more creative with their storytelling and are more or less independent from the fixed unimaginative Hollywood story telling scenarioe

As you can see, I'm mostly into movies. I recently read a biography on Gertrude Bell's life, which was fascinating. I love travel literature, like what Robert Kaplan does where he travels and then writes about how the current social/political situation was shaped by the past.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having a daughter was the best thing I've done in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

What a great philosophy "Teach.Learn.Share". I wholeheartedly agree with it.

Countries I’ve Visited

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan
