About Me

ABOUT ME

I used to work everyday (Monday - Friday at an office job in Berkeley and Friday - Sunday at a restaurant in San Francisco). That was unpleasant, so I quit the restaurant job and now have weekends free. Currently, I'm studying GIS and urban planning/design.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: The Man Without Qualities, On the Road, Homage to Catalonia, and The Savage Detectives. During the past few years, I've read quite a bit of Roberto Bolaño and Philip Roth. I also enjoy reading history, political science, urban planning and design, and have a certain nostalgic weakness for the Frankfurt Schoolers and their intellectual heirs.

Movies: The Battle of Algiers, The Big Lebowski, Bicycle Thieves, The Little Soldier, 1900, The Puffy Chair, Nights and Weekends. I also enjoy many films by Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, Andrew Bujalski, and Joe Swanberg.

Music: Animal Collective, Blonde Redhead, Can, John Coltrane, Yo La Tengo, Beirut, Of Montreal, Deerhoof, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Deerhunter, and music promoted by the Umbrella Music collective in Chicago. Recently: Colin Stetson, Colin Stetson, Colin Stetson, Boredoms, Lightning Bolt, Ab-Soul, No Age, Ty Segall, Ariel Pink, Kendrick Lamar, Male Bonding, Wire, tUnE-YarDs, Religious Girls, SLFM, and Bill Orcutt. I'm kind of obsessed with "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished." I still like Dischord bands active when I was in college (Q And Not U, Black Eyes, The Evens).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My last-minute trip to Italy was incredible. Biking around the hills of Piedmont(in the Northwest) while lost and looking for a winery, walking around Pompeii, and experiencing Naples were all wonderful. I've had many great traveling experiences, but my short Italian trip came to mind first.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not sure that I have many skills to share - basic Italian vegetarian cooking and very basic bicycle maintenance? I know a lot about wine!

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland
