ABOUT ME (this is out of date)

I'm a friendly traveler interested in knowing new cultures, people and trying new foods! I love playing music, and talking about different philosophies. I'm from Santa Cruz, California, but my parents moved to Cuenca Spain some eight years ago, so when ever I am able I visit them. Two years ago I spent a year studying in Spain, making friends and learning the language.

Soy un viajero amable con interés en conocer nuevas culturas y personas y probar nuevas comidas. Me encanta tocar la música y hablar de filosofías diferentes. Soy de Santa Cruz, California, pero mis padres han vivido en Cuenca desde hace diez años, así que les visito en cuanta pueda. Hace dos años pasé un año escolar en España creando nuevas amistades y aprendiendo la lengua.

Above all I believe in being kind to others, regardless if their beliefs are different from your own. In this crazy world, I think its essential that we help one an other when able.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has overall been an incredibly positive experience. My last trip to Eastern Europe and Turkey was the first time I used the website, and I was astonished by the generosity of my hosts. I feel I have made some amazing friends, both surfing and hosting.

En conjunto Couchsurfing ha sido una experiencia sumamente positiva. Lo utilicé por primera vez en Europa oriental y en Turquía, y me encontré muy sorprendido por la generosidad de mis anfitriones. Siento que he creado unas amistades formidables, tanto en viajar como en recibir a viajeros.

Interests

I'm passionate about music, play the piano, violin and some guitar. Although I enjoy climbing, I am not very good! I like animals, nature, hiking and biking. I am fascinated with the study languages and talking about different world views. I also love playing card and board games. I love traveling because it gives a glimpse into the infinite ways one can live their life.

INTERESES

Soy apasionado de la música, y toco el piano, el violín y la guitarra. También me gusta escalar, aunque no lo haga muy bien. Me gustan los animales, la naturaleza, ciclismo y senderismo. Me fascinan el estudio de las lenguas y me gusta hablar de puntos de vista mundiales. También me gustan los juegos de mesa. Me gusta viajar porque me da la oportunidad de vislumbrar la infinidad de maneras que un ser humano puede vivir su vida.

Some authors I love include: Graham Green, J.R.R. Tolkien, P.G. Wodehouse, Kurt Vonnegut.
My favorite documentaries are nature or science related such as: Planet Earth, Blue Planet, BBC Life, Through the Wormhole and more.
I love most movie genres, besides romantic comedies.
Some movies I can think of off the top of my head I love are : the Black Swan (chilling suspense!), Spirited Away (brilliant animation, and storytelling), the Princess Bride, Alien, Midnight in Paris, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind, L'Auberge Espagnole, and much more.

MÚSICA, PELICULAS Y LIBROS

Algunos autores que me gustan son: Graham Green, J.R.R. Tolkien, P.G. Wodehouse, Kurt Vonnegut. Los documentarios que más me gustan tratan de la naturaleza y las ciencias, tal como Planet Earth, Blue Planet, BBC Life, Through the Wormhole y otros parecidos. Me gustan casi todos los géneros del cine, comedias románticas aparte. Algunas películas que me gustan son: The Black Swan, Spirited Away (animación increible), the Princess Bride, Alien, Midnight in Paris, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless mind, y L'Auberge Espagnole, pero hay muchas más.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Perhaps not the most exhilarating experience of my life, but certainly the traveling experience that stuck with me most was a train trip I took with my father From Kita to Kayes (Mali, Africa). It lasted eight hours, in blazing heat, with the smell of rotting fish and produce being transported. Without AC, it surprised me that both the fans where off and windows closed. Yet the reason became apparent when I opened the windows and turned the fan on. Blazing heat was pushed in through the window, and the rising heat was pushed down by the fan. We had not brought food, and the only thing being sold was raw peanuts. After five hours, the rotting fish had its appeal, and I was tempted to try it. The country side was dry and barren, yet stunningly beautiful it its way. Luckily at a longer stop we managed to find some goat, and as they say, "hunger is the best sauce." I can't recall a better meal. Although the experience was not necessarily pleasurable, it was memorable, and enjoyable in its accomplishment. Very interesting 12 hours.

UNA COSA INCREIBLE QUE HE HECHO

Tal vez no fue la experiencia más energizante de mi vida, pero sin duda la experiencia de viaje que más me impresionó fue un viaje por tren que hice con mi padre desde Kita a Khayes (Mali, África). El viaje duró más de ocho horas, en un calor infernal, y con el olor del pescado podrido transportado. Sin el aire acondicionado, me sorprendió que todo el mundo viajaba sin poner los ventiladores o abrir las ventas. Pero la razón resultó evidente cuando abrí la ventana y un viento infernal nos pegó. Cuando encendimos el ventilador nos dimos cuenta que fue más caliente porque el calor había subido al techo y ventilador solo servía a calentarnos más. No habíamos llevado comida suficiente, y tras cinco horas de viaje el pescado podrido empezó a oler bien. El paisaje era seco y sin mucha vegetación, pero sin embargo de una belleza sorprendente. Al final el tren hizo una parada que nos dio el tiempo necesario para comprar carne de una cabra que acababan de matar, y como dicen, "el hambre es la mejor salsa". No puedo acordarme de una mejor comida. Aunque el viaje no fuera de nada agradable, me dio un placer grander haberlo cumplido. Doce horas muy interesantes.

I considerate myself a relatively intelligent person with a broad rather than specific amount of knowledge. I can teach beginning music and know some music theory. I'm good with computers, good at helping out with finding free useful software.
