Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Get off the continent! (at least for a bit)
ABOUT ME
A proud ginger geek with a creative side, I hail from the Queen City of Cincinnati, OH, USA and now live in Chicago, IL, USA. During the day, I do cool stuff with data at Datascope (http://datasco.pe); mostly designing and programming tools and visualizations. I love pretty much all forms of personal expression, especially music (indie pop, rock, electronic, classical, jazz), poetry, cooking, beer brewing (which I do on occasion), art (especially modern and contemporary art), and graphic novels. I also especially enjoy cycling, watching sports, and learning new things.
PHILOSOPHY
That's, uh, kind of a big question. I believe that ambiguity and complexity pervade our world and anyone who thinks they've got it all figured out probably hasn't thought hard enough about it. I believe that it's important to be skeptical, but also to try and hear many viewpoints about life and empathize with them. I live my life to enjoy it and to make other people's lives easier.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently, not in any way. Would like to start going to events and after I move (currently subletting), maybe host people on occasion.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Pretty much none! A friend told me about it and I'm looking into it for an upcoming trip to Northern Europe.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: So much! My favorites include Mew, Sonny Rollins, Disclosure, Bon Iver, Com Truise, Cloud Nothings, Steve Reich, Dirty Projectors, and Baths.
Movies: The Social Network, The Big Lebowski, WALL-E (and pretty much everything Pixar), Sin City, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and many others
Books: Snow Crash, Brave New World, Anna Karenina, The Grapes of Wrath, Ubik. Favorite graphic novels include Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Habibi, and the Saga series
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I went on a trip to southern Utah with some friends this past spring and went mountain biking for the first time on the bluffs in the desert. It was terrifying but I had an amazing time and want to go again some time soon.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can teach: some violin, facts about the taste and brewing of beer, programming.
Would like to learn: lots of things! how to be a better cook and storyteller, new languages and instruments, whatever you're passionate about.
