About Me

I mostly split my time between Utah and Alaska, and I live for the mountains. I play guitar, tell stories, cook, and love to laugh. If you have pets I'll try to be their best friend, I love animals and one day when I'm a real adult I'll have pets of my own.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've hosted a few people at my summer housing in Alaska and I've really enjoyed meeting other travelers and being able to share my favorite wilderness with others.

Interests

I live to explore- climbing rocks, mountains, and living in the wilderness for extended periods of time are my favorites. But there are a lot of things I haven't tried yet. In the summers normally I work in national parks in Alaska, then either ski resorts for the winter, or traveling! from 2015-2017 I traveled around South America mostly by hitch hiking and it was an incredible experience that definitely changed me and the way I see the world.

I like to think I'm down to earth and open minded. You can usually find me telling stories and talking about the wilderness, food, wildlife and ecosystems, high adventure, science and technology.

Music, Movies, and Books

Generally I'm a fan of nature writers and naturalists like John Muir or Barry Lopez.
I usually lean towards documentaries and independent films.
As far as music goes my tastes are varied, from bossa Nova and lounge jazz to Jose Gonzalez or sweet metal guitar solos. If someone is taking their feelings and accurately transmitting them through sound, I think I'll appreciate their music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Glacier Bay National Park I had a humpback whale fully breach just 100 meters away from my kayak. I still can't believe it was real.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a fair bit to offer in the way of wilderness skills and alpine knowledge. Please ask me questions about these if you're interested! Or better yet we can get into the wild together! There is nothing I love more than guiding someone through a deep wilderness area for their first time.

I play guitar decently well, I've got a travel guitar and I'm practicing writing my own songs, I should practice jamming more because sometimes I have a hard time finding a groove with other musicians.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always happy to play some music and tell stories. I'll also jump at any opportunity to cook Mexican food! I'm very capable helping in the garden as well. Small carpentry projects too! I'm a pretty capable automotive mechanic as well, and generally just love being handy and trying to help out.
