About Me

I'm a friendly face (and mind+heart) living in Buffalo, NY. I work in publishing and we focus on nonfiction children's books. I've written books on weird plant adaptations, the Gold Rush, Cristiano Ronaldo! I know some weird facts because of it and love to share.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, the best part of traveling tends to be the people I've met. Why I travel: "Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living." Miriam Beard

Interests

In addition to working in publishing, I also sing in two bands, perform often in nontraditional theatre type projects, and play the tenor saxophone. I love cats and dogs, playing with kids, learning languages, being silly (is that an interest? IT IS NOW), cooking for people, and any chance to use my imagination. I love trying new things, and do so often.

Music, Movies, and Books

How to choose? I will go with what's currently buzzing for me.
Movies: I was blown away by the colors and music in Shape of Water and the acting in Three Billboards. Coco made me bawl my eyes out and brought me closer to my heritage. The mom in I, Tonya is my muse. Singing in the Rain and the documentary Pina may be my ultimate faves.

Music: Currently bumping a solid playlist of Brazilian music from the 70s and the soundtrack to Black Panther.

Books: Most recently read The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and got to hear Junot Diaz speak!! He is a new hero of mine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in Spain when they won the World Cup!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can sing you songs! I can also make some damn good sauce. That's right, they call me the Sauce Queen.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever you like! I can sing, tell stories, teach you a dance move. Also am generally a flexible and adaptable yes-saying type of person. I love to ask questions, am a good listener, and am always down for an adventure.
