ABOUT ME
Living in Slovenia now, after two years in the Czech Republic... I'm an English teacher here and now run my own school. :)
PHILOSOPHY
I make goals and stick by them, but generally don't like to allow myself to get too carried away with goals... I think it's important for myself that I allow things to happen as they come up. I have no idea where I'll be in five years, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host more often than I surf, mostly because I make a better host than guest ;) It's harder these days, though, as I'm awfully busy. I haven't hosted in a long time, but I'd like to get back into it perhaps. :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've had mostly great experiences! Some of the people I've hosted have become what I'd consider to be friends that I keep in touch with and hope to see again - it's such an awesome organization :)
Interests
Writing and making music, playing tennis, meeting new people of various cultures, teaching in any manner I find (especially music, science, language, and culture), learning language...

Music, Movies, and Books
I like historical/biographical/cultural movies and books, but music is a huge part of my life. I own(ed) 10 instruments and used to play more than that... I like to write songs, cover other people's songs, and absorb music... I can find some appreciation for most types of music - there is no genre that is completely off limits for me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Before I left to study in Austria, I didn't ever have a passport. I waited until 2 weeks before I left to apply for it, which was not enough time, so 4 days before the move, I bought a plane ticket to Seattle, Washington to get my passport. I got on a plane the next day, went to the city hall to have my passport printed, wandered the city, stayed in a dive motel outside the city, and flew back to Minnesota two days before I left for Austria. One of my friends said, "Wow, I would've just given up."
Teach, Learn, Share
I was a science teacher in the US... here in Slovenia I am an English teacher. But teaching is what I do. Other than science and English, I've also taught people to play tennis, to play music, and other various things. Music is the international language... and language is one of the most important things in the world.
I'm all about learning about culture and what connects us all across the globe, but also what distinguishes us. I love learning about other languages (though I majorly SUCK at actually learning to speak them!), and in general I just love learning about new ways of thinking and new ideas.
