About Me
Hi! We're two people... Brian is a 32 year-old counselor in an online high school We're very different people... so there's a bit about each of us below:
Brian: Well-educated (two master degrees, working on a third and a doctorate). Works from home. Somewhat disabled (orthopedic issues which cause pain and limit mobility). Introvert. Usually doesn't leave the house and if he does, it's not for long, not going far, and he moves very slowly because of his conditions. He likes photography, crafting, culture, justice.... His undergrad training is in law, anthropology, sociology, and health. His graduate training is in counseling psychology, school counseling, and public health. He's not very exciting, but what he lacks in excitement, he makes up for in compassion. Brian will probably not be able to accompany you on long journeys around town, but if it's something rather finite (like going somewhere and coming home again) or something that doesn't require a great deal of walking, Brian may be able to go. If he can't, though, he can definitely help you find places of interest and help you figure out how to get there using public transportation.
Hector: A 26 year-old immigrant from Mexico on a conditional residency visa. He is psychology in Mexico, though he works with GoodWill right now. He aspires to go to college and become a dentist. Hector loves heavy metal type music. He really enjoys going to concerts for the bands that he likes and plans to go to several in the near future. He is interested in screen printing and enjoys modifying his clothes with patches from his favorite bands. Hector works hard and likes to sleep when he has the opportunity, but he is significantly more exciting than Brian.
So that's us in a nutshell. We're pretty friendly, pretty easy-going, calm, low-maintenance kind of people. We don't lead exciting lives... we don't go to bars every night, throw wild parties, smoke, or do drugs. Brian almost never drinks, and Hector will drink from time to time,Brian is a vegetarian and Hector will eat certain meets (chicken, tuna...).
There are also two cats: Salsa and Guacamole. Salsa is friendly and will love you forever, Waka isn't unfriendly, but he's still scared of almost everybody and almost everything. He does, however, like to talk at night time... so you may hear him. Brian wants more pets... some fish, a few birds, a turtle named lechuga, and maybe some guinea pigs, and a dog. Hector, though, insists that he doesn't want to live in a petting zoo. Brian believes animals are people too, and hey all deserve love. Both Hector and Brian love animals and are very passionate about their preservation and their affectionate treatment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hector is involved because Brian was involved when he moved here to Phoenix. Brian became involved because he loves culture... he is very activist-minded and believes that closed doors lead to closed minds and hearts... and that leads to violence.
Interests
Hector likes screen-printing, video games, heavy metal music, going to concerts, travelling, and is in love with everything German.
Brian likes photography, travelling, activism, and good food with good people.
Salsa enjoys being rubbed under her chin, scratched between her ears, and smearing her head on people's legs. She loves (loves loves loves) treats. Seriously, loves them.
Waka enjoys running when he thinks people are looking at him. He likes to sit in the window and watch the outside world go by. He loves to play with salsa, chase cord-like objects, and meow loudly when everybody is trying to sleep.

Music, Movies, and Books
Hector likes Lacrimosa, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford, and other loud kinds of music. He enjoys reading Anne Rice's vampire books, and likes to watch television shows like Modern Family and King of Queens... movies like This is England.
Brian doesn't listen to music very often, but when he does, it's usually melodic stuff that he can sing to when he forgets that other people can hear him. He enjoys reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez, likes to watch Big Bang Theory, and doesn't really have the attention span for movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We each fell in love with a person living in another country, completely changed our lives to accommodate that person, and have worked through the process of immigration in the United States.
Teach, Learn, Share
We can learn, teach, and share lots of things between the two of us. The kitchen, the cats, language skills, knowledge of the American legal system, mental health skills, public health expertise, an understanding of the social sciences, American culture, Mexican culture.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Brian doesn't surf... Hector would, if he could find people to host him on his travels.
