About Me

CURRENT MISSION
We want to continue to experience various cultures, especially in Central America, and at the same time exchange ideas as they relate to social justice and ideals that make the world a better place. Our experiences couch surfing in Europe have led to many long term wonderful friendships and helped us to remain open and willing to meet new friends in other parts of the world.

ABOUT ME

George is a loving family man who spent his career in the semiconductor industry and is now enjoying retirement with a wonderful spouse. We sold our home, furniture, and other "stuff", bought a recreational vehicle and traveled full-time throughout the US, over 5 times across the country and each time a different way. While George traveled extensively during his working days, EU was his 1st relaxed vacation. He says, "I hope to meet wonderful people, see great sites, and share the joy of being alive & healthy with others." EU travel was a first for Bridget and we both treasure our experiences in Europe.

Bridget is a retired high school English teacher, avid volunteer & strong advocate for social justice. She was recently the Education Director at Sacred Heart Community Service whose mission is to change lives and impact poverty. She is lively, fun, compassionate, and interested in learning more about a wide variety of cultures. She is outgoing, loves to meet new people, and enjoys nature. She says, "The EU trip brought closer to a mutual understanding that we are one planet, one globe, one people."

PHILOSOPHY

We both strive to be the best people we can be at all times. We pray, meditate, and reflect on a daily basis. We are concerned about the direction our nation is taking although we had confidence in our previous president. It appalls us that many of our fellow Americans are so greedy and self-absorbed, but we hope to show that this is not how all US Americans are, as a people. Politics aside, we know much needs to be done for us to be respected globally and we hope that we can make a difference, one person at a time. We truly believe in making a difference and hope you can be part of making this happen by sharing your point of view and opinions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have returned from an outstanding trip throughout EU with many great memories thanks to all the hosts we met and the adventures we shared. We are currently in Sun City, Arizona in a retirement community with a variety of ammenities. We look forward to traveling again soon. Our next visit will be in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Honduras and we appreciate connecting with couch surfing hosts in these countries if possible.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We had our 1st host in Madrid, Spain and another two hosts in Lisbon, South of France, Austria, and Lille. The concept of CS is a wonderful way to connect with local people and get tips that aren't in guide books. For us, it's all about meeting people and making new friends, and we have had good fortune in that regard. Europeans are so open to all kinds of people - even those in our "3rd youth" and we are learning so much from all of you; we have full & grateful hearts! For our trip of a lifetime, meeting CSers has made the experience so much richer and meaningful.

Back in the USA brought some unexpected events, some positive, some not so much. But we are now healthy and happy living in a small home and getting ready to travel again. Hopefully new couch surfer hosts will become some of our new friends very soon.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bridget has been a teacher who inspired non-readers to change their mind about literature and about the ability for self discovery through reading.

George was a member of the team that conducted the 1st satellite communication into space, so we can blame him for our cell phone woes. George also plays pickleball, a fairly new & exciting sport. He can tell you all about it when we see you in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

Bright, animated, fun types. George knows a lot about computers, how they work & how they are made; he knows math, science, and finance. Bridget has a huge heart, loves to cook, tell stories, write poetry and connect with people from all ages and cultures. We have experienced Fado in Lisboa and it has changed us in a wonderful way. Talk about soul music!! Our son lives in Hawaii and has an amazing catamaran called Makani where he takes tourists out for an authentic sailing adventure.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Even though our language skills are limited to English, we are good communicators who love to share our long view of life (we are older after all) and we are open to learning about you and your life. We bring laughter, fun and congeniality into your home and realize we will leave with more understanding of you and your culture that we continue to share in all our travels.
