About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Vietnam - South to North

ABOUT ME

I come from a wee village called Daviot in North East Scotland.

I love science, music, festivals, languages and meeting people from completely different backgrounds to myself.

I discovered couch surfing while in Vienna. I was doing a project at the university and wanted to learn German in my spare time. I found about couch surfing and used it just to meet people in my vicinity who were interested in meeting up to have a conversation with me. I realised then how powerful cs is just for meeting new people nearby and not just for surfing.
Using cs for learning German was a great idea and was really effective.
I later used it to actually surf!

PHILOSOPHY

Don't panic!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been inactive for years.

I hosted some people when I live in Cambridge, England 3 or 4 years ago.

In 2011, I attended the weekly meetings and German speaking evenings in Vienna every week and I sbowed a few people around Vienna. I did some couchsurfing and have met up with local surfers for drinks etc as I pass through their towns.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The meetings and events in Vienna are great! I have met many new people learned plenty of Wiener Deutsch.

I couchsurfed in Belgium.
With Herman Schlepens in Gent. 08/2011 This was a royal introduction to the world of Belgian beer omg!

Interests

I have more interests than is good for me!

I am a Data Scientist by profession. I arrived at this profession through my fascination of artificial intelligence and computer programming.
My other interests are physics, environmentalism, learning languages, and music :)
I have lived in Germany and Austria where I learned to speak fairly fluent German.

Music-wise: I like going to concerts of basically any kind of music. I also play a few instruments: bass, guitar, mandolin, tin whistle and a little bit of piano.

I am quite sporty and love hiking in the mountains and biking on trails.
I also like cooking especially for other people :)

Currently trying to learn some basic photography.
