About Me

I'm from Kailua, Oʻahu, born and raised. I studied Architecture, Hawaiian Studies, and Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. I also studied Urban Design in Copenhagen, Denmark and the greater Scandinavian area for a full summer. I come from a family of hula practitioners and we have been practicing hula our whole lives.

I'm most passionate about places and their unique identities that are derived from the people who live and interact with them. My life dream is to work to create places that are in deference to that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling to me is an opportunity for human study and interaction. I believe in eco-tourism practices that strive to get travelers integrated more authentically into the experience of a place which this platform does by connecting people together.

I'm new to CS, so hoping to try it out and meet new people through my travels :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Musically I like almost everything--hawaiian, reggae, electropop, deep house, folk, blues, r&b, soul, etc. etc. etc.

Some of my favorite buildings are:
Tjibaou Cultural Center - Rezo Piano
Villa Mairea - Alvar Aalto
The Liljestrand House - Vladimir Ossipoff

One of my favorite books is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. And one of my favorite poets is Sylvia Plath.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I studied Pacific indigenous building practices and buildings in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and New Caledonia. I spent some time with Maori scholars who are part of the Tuhoe people in Aotearoa and I got to learn from some Kanak friends on the island of Drehu (Lifou) in New Caledonia. It was inspiring to discuss their differences in political status as indigenous people and compare it to that of native Hawaiians.

Countries I’ve Visited

Denmark, Finland, Guam, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Sweden

Countries I’ve Lived In

Denmark, United States
