Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

UPDATE: Sooooo, all my really awesome profile information from Hawaii is now outdated. I have joined the real world and moved to Ohio. I anticipate that my couch surfing requests will be dropping from 5 per week to 5 per year; but, I'm still interested in meeting people.

I'm extremely interested in hosting people who can broaden my view of the world. One of my roommates has hosted with CS the entire time I've lived here (he moved away last month) and I have been able to meet people from all over the world; which has had a dramatic impact on my personal understanding.
Because I am a full time student it is best that people that I host have a certain level of independence. However, I do surf every morning and am happy for anyone to join me, even if it is your first time. I also try to go sailing on Fridays and you're welcome to come if that is something you enjoy.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted many people and surfed a little. In both cases, I have made some great friends and had amazing experiences. I enjoy using CS to meet new people when I move to a new area - its nice to have a community that shares my enthusiasm for adventure and new experiences.

Interests

Update: Although I still enjoy all these pursuits, there are not many locations I can surf and ski in Ohio. I have taken-up water skiing and wake surfing in the summertime. I also play rugby in the spring and summer - you are welcome to come along and get slapped around a little. Good times.
I try to pull myself out of bed at dawn at least twice a week to surf - these are the best days. I paddle and hike often. I love almost anything in the water (liquid or solid state). I have spent a lot of time in the mountains, backpacking, skiing, etc. Anything outdoors peaks my interest.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies is a tough one - it really depends on how I'm feeling. I have been known to enjoy everything from foreign films to movies with fart jokes (tasteful fart jokes, of course).
When it comes to reading, I enjoy the classics. I'm working my way through Time's 100. Steinbeck, Dickens and Hugo are a few of my favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching an unbelievable lightning storm from atop the corrugated metal roof of our shack in South America. Paddling out into double overhead surf last summer, catching the wave of my life and paddling back in after just that one wave...terrified and exhilarated.
I also had the privilege of co-founding a non-profit foundation for homeless children in Hawaii. I acted as the Assistant Director for 5 years. Every moment I spent with those kids was life-changing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I cant very well teach people to surf anymore; but, if your around in the summer, I can teach you to water ski (or wake board/wake surf).
