About Me

Brodrick - I'm a young student who loves travel. I am studying mechanical engineering at one of the universities in Melbourne. Last year I deferred my studies and travelled for around 8 months in South East Asia, Turkey and Europe - including living for 3 months in Italy as an au pair (like babysitter but from afar, look it up!) - and enjoyed it a lot...definitely a lot more than studying. I found that over this period I learnt a lot about myself and matured far quicker than the 18 months or so I have spent after finishing high school, and so I now I look to travel whenever possible in order to experience more and grow more as a person too!

Charles - I'm also a young student, studying at the same university as Brodrick and also studying a similar course as i want to become a civil engineer. I'm a very easy going person who loves to travel. I've been very lucky to travel to some beautiful places and meet some amazing people. I love my sports and consider myself a very active person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My brother (Charles) and I are travelling to Iran in January/February 2017 and a friend recommended couch surfing to us as an awesome way to really engage with locals while travelling. Whenever I have travelled before I have always wanted to maximise my experience by talking with and/or staying with as many locals as possible as I believe that travel is more about the people rather than the places. This is why I think couch surfing would be an amazing opportunity to understand who the people of which ever country you visit really are, and all in their own HOME! Charles and I really just want to meet kind and loving people from everywhere and that's why we've decided to try couch surfing!

Music, Movies, and Books

Brodrick - My favourite book is The Old Man And The Sea by Ernest Hemingway and I love literature. I love all kinds of movies especially arthouse films and french films, but I also like to sit down and switch my brain off while I watch stupid action movie or rom com. Music is probably my great passion of the 3 and I love to listening to everything except heavy metal (sorry those that do, I'll just got to another room :) ), jazz and rock are probably my favourite genres..however I love to go out and listen to techno on weekends.

Charles - I am not the biggest reader, however i still do have a favourite and thats George Orwell's 1984. As for music i have quite a wide range of interest as I enjoy music from almost all spheres of the industry as I have no particular favourite genre. As for movies I enjoy a wide range of genre's from mainstream to arthouse.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Brodrick - One amazing thing I have done is hike in the Myanmese (Burmese) himalayas in 2015 with my dad. This hiking was a some of if not this best hiking I have ever had the fortune of being able to experience due to the remoteness of the region.

Charles - I was extremely lucky to go hiking in Nepal a couple of years ago. One of the most amazing experiences of my life was witnessing the sun rise bounce off the icy peaks of some of the mountains. The natural beauty of the mountain ranges will forever stay with me in my memory.

Teach, Learn, Share

Brodrick - At home I tutor maths and therefore I am more than willing and able to teach maths to anyone and when I was in Italy I taught the children of the family I was staying with english so I am also happy to help anyone with there english too (on request I can dabble in physics and french). Whenever I travel to a country I love to try and speak as much of the language as possible because I find it makes travel all the more enjoyable, so the more I can learn for visitors or hosts the better!

Charles - I also did a little bit of tutoring at my old school, teaching maths to the some of the kids in the younger year levels. I've also been trying to learn Spanish this year, as i've been doing it with university. I too am very open and willing to immerse myself to a countries culture and language, as such im always keen to experience cultural events and learn new languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We are too loveable aussie brothers looking to experience the world as much as we possibly can in the short time we have. We have seen many things in our previous travels and we look see many more and share them with those we encounter along the way. We are easy going and well trained when it comes to respecting people and their homes, as we would expect nothing less in our own home and towards us. And we are very excited to gain more brothers and sisters than just the one we started with!
