About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Establish depth, purpose and meaning.
ABOUT ME
Many years of growing up in the Australian bubble were burst open in June 2010 when I stopped everything to travel and work in Europe. I lived in places such as London, Amsterdam and Berlin; working, travelling and experiencing a world that is similar, but also different to the one that I was familiar with. It was an enriching journey, and it has taught me much about myself.
My motivations in life are different to those when I left, so now I am working out my next move. I guess I thrive on discovery and obtaining new ideas and information from history and those surrounding me. I ask how is it that I can contribute to the world in which I live rather than ignorantly and selfishly indulge in it.
PHILOSOPHY
I strive for simplicity. It is easy to become disoriented in the hubbub of society, so one must learn to cope in a way that is compassionate and kind to those they impact. I no longer strive for accumulation of wealth and possessions; I see these things disillusioning our happiness, instead I ask how I can a make a contribution to the place that enables my existence. That is the piece of the puzzle I am trying to find now.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I surf
I want to learn about you and your surroundings. If you're a local; what have you been exposed to growing up? If you're an expat; how you have adjusted to those new surroundings and your impressions? I like to cook for my hosts, and discuss anything of value. If you can show or suggest some interesting things I will gladly take part :)
When I meet up with you
I can show you around if you like. If I am overseas then I'll show you what I have come to learn about the place I live. If we are in Melbourne then I can show you some secret pockets although I am finding that I am relearning much about the place.
When I host
My space is your place. Usually three days are a good start. I like people who don't need to be babysat. If I have time I'll hang out.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couch Surfing has single handedly modified my impressions of travel. I have had a good mixture of experiences, both good and the not-so-good (these actually turn out to be the best experiences), but it has been the best way to travel. It has facilitated meetings with people that have similar ideals to that of myself, and conversely, those that are completely contrary. I graduated from the 'free accommodation' mentality to experience all that it offers beneath the hood. It is a wonderful project fostering benevolence among the people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I become amazed and fascinated daily; I guess I'm easily roused and amused.
Trip wise, indulging in the white bliss of Japanese snow was wonderful a few years back. I loved the food, the culture and the people.
Hitchhiking in tandem with Couch Surfing just over two months in Europe was an eye opening experience. To know there is so much good-will out there amidst the fear is reassuring.
Teach, Learn, Share
I do have some specialised knowledge when it comes to programming, so if that is what piques you, then I'd be happy to share.
I dance quite a bit of salsa at the moment, and I'm fond of a chess game, so if you want to learn or indulge then let's go!
I'm a strong advocate of knowledge sharing, but sadly I don't think it happens enough. I would love for people to mentor each other from time to time, passing on valuable knowledge. There is too much to consume out there that can probably drive you a little insane, but with a little persistence and patience you should be able learn something that is well-founded.
If you want to start something, such as a group or meeting, then I'd be happy to assist and help out.
As my username suggests I can fumble around with a few chords here and there on my guitar. I am no Hendrix, but I can show you a thing or two to get you interested.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can take you for your first surf! I have a bike that you can ride around on. We'll probably share a meal or two and I'm always up for a boardgame.
