About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure." ~William Feather

ABOUT ME

I'm your basic free spirited girl with a passion for life and a permanent case of wanderlust. When I travel, I prefer to stay places where I can meet people and get a taste of the real life of the area, which is why I appreciate couch surfing and hostels over hotels. I'm a native Californian, but I've lived in Washington, DC and Madrid, Spain, both which allowed me to take trips to amazing places on the side. I'm a very laid back person and enjoy nothing more than exploring.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that kindness is not only a way of life, but a religion. And it's my religion. I always try to leave the world a kinder place everywhere I go, even if it's just one tiny person at a time. I believe in the silver lining, which can be found anywhere in life if you just look for it. I'm guided by it. I look upon life as an adventure- Always something new to learn, beautiful to experience and wonderful to create.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've just joined Couch Surfing. It seems like my ideal way to travel and truly explore. Several of my friends have been couch surfers for years, and I'm finally taking their lead and becoming a member of this great network!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I traveled to Morocco, we tried to stay with a couch surfing member, but all his couches/beds were full. However: He offered to meet us for lunch and show us around Tangier. Thus began a weekend adventure with us, this member and the 6 people who were staying with him, plus 2 people who were not staying with him but were also attempting to do so. We were from all over the world, and had an amazing time together. We are all still in touch, though scattered all over the country. One of the people I met was from my home state, just a couple of hours away from me. We are now both back in CA and see each other often, and he has become one of my dearest friends. What an amazing resource!

Music, Movies, and Books

Lover of the singer/songwriter/folk music genre. Also love a lot of indie folk rock/pop music that's out there these days. Some favorite artists to include Bon Iver, Bob Dylan, Iron & Wine, Patty Griffin, the Waillin' Jennys.

I prefer movies that make me feel, even if it's just innocent joy. Not a big fan of horror films or violent movies. Favorites to include: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Harold & Maude, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Neverending Story, Slumdog Millionaire.

I love travel books that compile short stories of people's experiences. They usually have something that everyone can relate to, some key human thread.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My travels through and around Spain showed me amazing things, including Moroccan marketplaces and Moorish ruins. On a more local level, I have taught children how to play the guitar, and organized charity events to raise money for Alzheimer's Disease research and care.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am bilingual- English is my native language, Spanish is my second/learned language. I love language exchange- Teaching English while learning Spanish. I also love sharing my knowledge of Spanish language with non native speakers. I also dance, and have taught international dance to children. I love to teach, learn and share the beauty of dance. Most of all, I believe in the "pay it forward" concept. Teaching, learning and sharing acts of kindness and beauty by setting off a chain reaction. I don't ever want to stop learning.
