About Me

Always ready to meet interesting people. Share life experiences. Moving To Chile.

ABOUT ME

My friends from Europe came to visit one summer. We drove from Baltimore to Niagara Falls, to Toronto, To Montreal, to Boston, To New York City, to Atlantic City, to Philadelphia, and back to Baltimore- more than 1,000 miles (I think). The Watuusi Tour. Next summer they came again. I took them to a baseball game. They never came back again, but we're still great friends. I don't think they like baseball; silly Germans (wink). I visited Aachen and Cologne a few times too. We ALWAYS have fun and are fulfilled in our travels. Why? Yes. Seeing the BIG things is important- Eifel Tower, Kremlin, Machu Pichu. I like to see them. But when you're standing there in wonder and you hear the person next to you breathe out heavy and say, 'Ooooooooooooooh,' it makes the trip quite special. I meet the most amazing people, and for that I'm grateful.

PHILOSOPHY

It's a good thing to have many lives since one will not be enough to see everything, but in the end, we all understand the big picture. No need to struggle. Relax and allow life's experiences to wash over me like a tide coming in. What is here now is more important than what might happen in the future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I sleep on couches world-wide, and I offer my couch to be sleep upon. I make friends with travelers. Their experiences are of great interest.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I got 'adopted' by a Slovenian family in 1976. They took me on vacation with them to the Adriatic Coast. When it was time to leave, a friend of the family gave me a note and his mother's address in Ljubljana. I went to the address and I handed 'mom' the note. She took care of me like royalty for two days, although I spoke not one word of Slovenian, and she didn't speak any English. To me, it was the ultimate couch surf.

Interests

Life. Who are we and why are we here? How can we all be happy? I love to travel. It is more important to see a place through the eyes of a person who lives there than it is to see all the sights. Love to read. Like movies, camping, canoeing, and hiking.

Music, Movies, and Books

All kinds of music and songs. Telling stories. Movies about real life. Boondock Saints, Pulp Fiction, Waterworld, Little Miss Sunshine, et al.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Kuala Lumpur, I went downtown and got on a bus full of pilgrims to the Batu Caves. The Hindu Festival in progress involved devotees in trances skewering their tongues with bamboo sticks, sticking fish hooks through the skin in their backs, and walking on hot coals. I've never experienced such a thing before in my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

TO share life with others makes the experiences more poignant.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm Bruce from Baltimore in Maryland, USA. I retired about one year ago and I'm learning Spanish so I can move to Chile. I was teaching German language and computers my whole career. I'm interested in languages and cultures, and I have some experience teaching languages. I can help if you are learning English or German. I've traveled the world, I love new experiences and people, and I'm easy to get to know. I have no grand expectations of people. I offer kindness, and I expect that in return. It's always a good idea to begin as a guest in someone's home to get to know the country. I can offer a sleeping place and some direction. When I travel, people are very good to me and I want to return the favor. I know you will find me friendly, and an interesting traveler.
