About Me
How do people answer those questions? haha. I am just a normal guy trying to have fun and travel around the world while trying to do a bit of mathematics.
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lived here until I was seven. When I reached seven, my mother got bored and decided to move to a state in Brazil the middle of the Amazon rainflorest, Acre. I stayed there for three years and totally loved it (it was fantastinc to grow up in a small city where I could go by myself anywhere by bike, something far from possible in a metropole like Rio). My mother then got bored again, moved back to Rio, and then got bored again and moved to Curitiba, in the south of Brazil.
I returned to Rio when I was 11 and stayed here until I was 21. By that time, I had done my undergrad and masters in mathematics and decided to move to the United States for a PhD. This was why I moved to Kent, Ohio. In my first year there I met my now wife, Masha. She was the first person from Kazakhstan I met! I would have never thought that the first time I would take a transatlantic flight would be to visit Kazakhstan!
During my PhD in the USA, I lived in Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana. After my PhD, I moved to Toronto, Canada, for a pos-doc and then back to the USA for another pos-doc, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Turing my time in Toronto and Virginia, my wife was working in Washington DC, so, for five years, I was either flying or taking the bus every week to see her.
After 12 years to the north of the Equator, I finally returned home! I am now living back in Rio with my wife where we both are university professors, myself in mathematics and my wife in economics.
We love traveling together and getting to know a bit more of this huge world we live in!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I beleive the most important thing in any city is its people! So, it is always amazing when I am traveling and have the opportunity to get to know some "real people" from the city! I feel like this is the best way to get to know a little bit about what life in the city really looks like and understand a bit more of its culture. The tips we can get from the locals are also priceless and definitely make the best memories!

Music, Movies, and Books
Most of all: Brazilian music (e.g., choro, samba, MPB, moda de viola, Brazilian rock, etc). But I love listening to different things and getting to know different music genres. For instance, you will often catch me listening to Argentinian tango, portuguese fado, Russian rock, jazz, blues, progressive rock, traditional music from Mali, etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lived in the middle of the Amazon rainforest
Camped in Macchu Pichu
Went to Russian saunas naked with my father-in-law from Kazakhstan and his friends
Camped in the Salt desert in Bolivia

Drove around Iceland
Addopted an adorable puppy
