ABOUT ME

A naturalist, a humanist and a dreamer, in a constant strive for knowledge, in love with the beauty of the Savage Garden that is the world and in awe of the potential of the human mind.

The Portuguese in me loves talking over a nice cup of coffee, but I’ll take a glass of wine as well, thank you very much.

I love interminable abstract and deep conversations about everything and nothing. I love to see the world through other people’s eyes. I love comfortable silence - I hate small talk with no other purpose than breaking the silence.

I love walking aimlessly through known and unknown streets or wild woods (don’t do the second one often enough). I love doing it alone, I love to share it with good company.

I am an existentialist on Tuesdays and an absurdist on Thursdays. Sometimes I’m both on the same day. Subjectivity is truth and truth is subjectivity.

PHILOSOPHY

"I knew my vision of the garden of savage beauty had been a true vision. There was meaning in the world, yes, and laws, and inevitability, but they had only to do with the aesthetic(...) A thousand other things can be said about the world, but only aesthetic principles can be verified, and these things alone remain the same.”
-The Vampire Lestat, Anne Rice

"The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
-Albert Camus

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.”
Hodding Carter

"I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than i knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you."
-Neil DeGrasse Tyson

My experience is actually very recent and so far only Surfing. I'm hoping to star hosting as well very soon.

Interests

To lay down on the floor listening to good music for hours, reading a good book, Being.

To learn more and more – to see, hear, touch, smell, taste. Possibly other senses as well. Philosophy, science, arts, politics, cultures, natural and human history, nature, travelling, myths and legend and so on.

To discuss, to talk, to argue – from the beauty of the shade of green of an oak-leaf to different philosophical stances upon morality and ethics.

I love photography and am trying to learn as much as I can. I love reading and writing, mainly to myself. I love music and am trying to get deeper into properly play guitar and possibly move to some other instrument.

Also, I love Quotes so I would love to hear some from you that reflect anything about you or how you perceive the world ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music would be an interminable list. I like artists that broke some convention and/or made something unique, something of their own. That (above all) have true passion to it (whatever passion means). From metal to rock or folk, going through progressive, blues, psychedelic. Complex in its simplicity, Simple in its complexity.
Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Apocalyptica , The Cult, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd Patti Smith, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Edie Vedder, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, The Band, The Byrds, Howlin Wolf. Many other not so known names, some which I discover, love and end up storing somewhere in a dusty archive of my mind.

Movies on the other hand are a much more restricted list as the line between like and love is generally deeper, but still not very rigid - The dreamers, Perfect Sense, Into the wild, Dead poets society, I’m not there, Fight club, Across the universe, Samsara.

Books could also be a long list. Mainly authors and not “just” books - Anne Rice, Haruki Murakami, Kerouac,Orwell, John Irving, Fernando Pessoa, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, Tolkien, Terry Pratchet, The Little Prince.
Many others as well, but the ones above i could discuss for hours. I also have an infinite list of to-be-favourites which haven’t yet read, amongst which Kafka and Camus (which I have actually read something too long ago and a few passages here and there)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have performed acrobatics in front of a crowd of thousands. Painted red. Naked, except for a thong. Twice.
